Really? I know the beeb went through this when they went unencrypted on
satellite but that's a much bigger footprint. Going free to air on
terrestrial is still limited to the UK, isn't it?

Yes, but TV programmes cost more to air on premium channels than on
free-to-air channels. E4 won't be making as much money, because they won't
have subscription income, so might not be able to win bidding wars with
other premium channel providers like, say, Sky.

Also, programme rights for FTA TV are generally only available once Pay-TV
    has had a go.

It might be OK though - we'll have to see. Just don't be too disappointed
if it's not quite as good as when it was a premium channel.

I agree fully with the economics but you were implying that premium
programmes wouldn't be available to them, not that they couldn't afford
    them.
Because subscription tv generally has greater spending power. Although
with premium stuff on E4 it's generally been repeated up on Channel 4
only a couple of weeks later.

Does anyone know if E4 is going FTA or FTV on satellite as well? I
think ITV3 is currently encrypted on Sky but is free on Freeview.
Oh, I'm not worried, I get most of my tv from US torrent sites.

I suspect it'll be unlikely as I have a feeling Sky know this as well and
they also know it's not just you that's waiting.

  11. ITV3 is FTV atm. Cunts just stopped the Hornblower series dead without a
    warning last week.

I like Mossy, he doesn't sound like a train spotter reading the shiny
sales brochure. Plus, he seems to be able to ride the bikes he tests
properly with wheelies and everything. :)

Since I got the PC update cable, I have turned off automatic updates.
Looks like it may turn off automatic channel scanning as well.

I've looked all through the menus on me STB and there's nothing that
I've seen about auto updates. I think an internet search is in order[1]
because a PC cable here isn't really an option.

[1] It's also possible that it won't alert you, full stop.

Well that was interesting. My STB, a Thomson DTI2300 has universally
    shite reviews.

It looks like the things I thought it should do, does, but it's so fulla
    bugs that it won't.
