OT Fox Hunting (kind of)

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Grimley_Feindish, Sep 17, 2004.

  1. I don't want to start a debate about it as you've probably had enough of
that, just wanted to share the gem a tit at work came out with today -

"They shouldn't ban fox hunting because people have been doing it for
thousands of years and should be allowed to carry on. Yeah it's cruel but
foxes are vermin so what does that matter".

    A sound and reasoned argument.

From what I saw on the news the other night, the fox hunters are more of
    a vermin than foxes are!

Certainly after those riots I completely lost any sympathy I had for
them - which wasn't much anyway.

Personally I don't care whether it's been happening for years - actually
only a few hundred rather than thousands, or whether the foxes are
vermin or not, the whole spectacle is barbaric IMHO.

I've lived in the countryside for most of the time I've lived in the UK.
The Oakley Hunt regularly rode through or from the village I was brought
up in, and not once did I see anything resembling a fox or what could
possibly pass for a hunt when we, as kids, chased the hounds over the
    fields.

It's hardly barbaric for spectators, as the blooding happens way out of
the villages in the sticks, where there's no-one to see it except the
hunt or those who've followed them. If you don't want to see it, don't
    chase the hunt down.

I got a phonecall from a national tabloid journo yesterday asking me if I'd
got any photos of the busty young filly who whipped her top off during the
    London protests.

Sadly (for me *and* my wallet) I hadn't.

I wasn't particularly bothered about the visual aspect of it. I just
don't see the point of it all for the sake of exterminating a fox.

Tradition, and I'm thoroughly pissed off with this nation's traditions
being trampled upon in the name of political correctness. If you don't
like the way we live, live elsewhere.

  11. He (Andy) did. Live elsewhere that is. Do you still need a passport to
    get in to geordie land?

He doesn't see the point of a foxhunt.
I don't see the point of football, but I don't want it banned. Oh hang
on a minute, actually I would like it banned, but only if all the
football supporters could be used instead of foxes.

What would happen to the foxes then?
They'd get shot. Same as will happen to them after the ban comes in.
Except as there is no call for a fox, as the hunt wont be allowed to
chase them, then _all_ the foxes will be shot.

If foxhunting were a recently introduced ethnic activity, it would be
lauded as a piece of multicultural diversity. If it were a quasi
religious activity like halal slaughter it would be a 'bad thing' to
say anything against it. But it isn't, its a traditional British,
mostly English, white, fairly classless country pursuit, so it must be
wrong and not PC and the screaming pinkos must ban it.

  17. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Grimley_Feindish"
    Obviously they're asking for it.

Yes it is cruel, but only strong healthy foxes survive the chase... If
hunting is banned it will lead to trapping and shooting of foxes, 30%
of shot foxes limp away to die slowly in a ditch - govt figures from
early '80's... Go figure... Also consider the no. of farriers, boot
makers, saddle makers and other associated tradespeople who will be
affected, its in the tens of thousands UK-wide (apparently, according
    to the pro-hunt lobby)...

    U all hunt safely, now...

  19. It was mainly the thousands of years comment that bothered me, particuarly
as this was the son on our IT director speaking (obviously mental ability is
genetic). Although I am concerned about this 'cruelty is ok if it's vermin'
attitude. Imagine if everyone adopted that line with your average pikey or
chav. Oh, as you were, it all makes sense now.....
