Dalwhinnie 12yr old is verrry nice and readily available (smooth and lovely), one of my favourites. Bowmore is an Islay whisky but not too phenolic, also can be got in a variety of styles. Springbank is in the same vein and very nice. Auchentoshan is the most southern malt, it's made in Glasgow and is triple distilled and very smooth as well. But, There are so many it is mind boggling. -- Martin: "For a minute there, you bored me to death." Not online, but this is what I do: Go to nearest Oddbins. Ask for the whisky man. Describe what you're after. From the two or three bottles he lines up, pick one and buy it. After you do this a few times you can add "sample one or two" in to the middle somewhere. The one in the middle of Manchester hasn't gone wrong yet, and I've been getting christmas and birthday presents from there for about 4 years.
Mm. Spotted that myself this weekend. Most malts with 5 or 6 quid off tescos prices. Stocked up for christmas on something cheap and tasty ! Nah, not for me. Laphroaig or Highland park by choice. Apologies to Cane, not into Jamesons or Bushmills. Or even Black Bush for that matter. Just not my taste .. P.
Open your copy of the Michael Jackson book at the Highland Park page, and look for the word "Orkney".
Highland Park is distilled on Orkney, which, IIRC, makes it an Island malt. Laphroaig has a fairly peaty taste, whereas Highland Park is smoother and sweeter. I'm sure I've got a copy of that somewhere. Quite.
Have you tried it? Paging Christofire and darsy. It's a hundred times better than any other gin that I've tried. Gin is *my* drink.
Ben Blaney wrote: [Tanqueray 10] <fx: wakes up> Tanqueray 10 is probably the best gin I've ever tasted. It's a tad steep, mind you, but I'd far rather spend 40 quid on a bottle of it than 40 quid on /any/ whisk(e)y. Not many places sell it (oddly, I prefer not to buy spirits online). I used to have to get to the Soho Wine Company[1] just off TCR to get hold of it, but I've since discovered that Sainsbury's @ London Colney stock it. They also stock Ricard, which is good, because nowhere else remotely close to where I live seems to sell anything but Pernot, which I don't like. [1] of course, it's worth going there anyway, just to boggle at the number of flavoured vodkas etc. they have in such a small shop. In fact, I've a trip planned there this coming Wednesday afternoon.
Ben Blaney says... Do you own shares in the parent company?[1] [1] I haven't bought Kahlua in ages, I've given up the demon drink.
