OT .. FOAK ... Learn Spanish?

  1. Everyone complains about the price of that course. The Op said of course
that you can steal it quite easily.

The best place to ask this stuff is alt.language.spanish or
alt.usage.spanish. Both quite well monitored groups, even though they
attract a lot of cross-posting wankers (political stuff -largely
    argentinians, americans and mexicans).

Post a serious question and it will get answered. But google first as
it's all been said before. There's tons of free stuff available on the
    wibbly wobbly web.

Wikipedia has a good article on the issue. Similarities are those of
two languages that derived from latin and evolved at the same time in
nearby territories, with a complex set of interactions whose
description is beyond the scope of a Usenet post.

Disimilarities can be as funny as the false friend "canalla", which
stands for children in Catalan and for some sort of bastard in Spanish
    :)

Compared to Geordie, I don't expecto to be official (law,
administration, police, education) in an area of some 10 million
people, being understood by 90% and spoken by 70%.
Well, there are Catalans in the south of France (Roussillon) who speak
French but probably no Spanish. They call us "southern Catalans" :)
The Andorrans are usually trilingual French/Spanish/Catalan (the later
is the country official language, but customers come from both sides)
and finally in the Italian city of L'Alghero/L'Alguer they are
bilingual Catalan/Italian as a fosile language.

  4. Google a bloke called "Gurriato" (on usenet). He'll explain it to you :)

But whatever you do, don't drag him in here.
