OT FOAK: Hard Drives

    With the second replacement 250Gb Maxtor HD making terminal clunking noises
    in as many weeks [1] I'll be in need of a replacementwhich make of sata HD
    would the FOAK recommend [2]

    [1] HD 1 also suffered a mechanical failure
    [2] Not Maxtor natch

    And in what way does removing the attribution lines completely equate
    to sorting them out? This is far from the first time you've shown
    yourself to be incapable of formatting a post correctly.

    Seconded, all my computers here are fitted with Barracuda replacement
    drives, and I've yet to have a problem. The Maxtor I had died after a
    couple of years use.

    Specifically Spinpoint series. Fast, reliable (IM not exactly small
    experience) and *QUIET* as well :)

    I've a pair of them, the SATA variety, happily spinning away. They
    are very quiet, you're right. I can't tell the virus checker is doing
    its thing unless I look at the icon; the only time I hear them is
    during heavy data transfer, but they're so quick it doesn't last long
    ;-)
