    1 ten-mile walk every morning.
1 bed at 11 sharp every night.
And don't stuff up your head with things you don't understand."

I assume you're referring to the "microorganisms growing" sentence and
ignoring the other parts of the page.

The increase in temperature affects both bacteria and viruses by
denaturing proteins. While this clearly has an effect on replication of
bacteria, it also affects the proteins in viruses, reducing their
    virulence.

Much as I hate to admit it, i'm with the Ging-er one.

First sign of a cold, get the layers on and help that body fever fight
the infection off by making it too hot i.e. less easy for the virus to
    survive.

That's what I do, what me mum did, what her mum did.

    'Swot i'll do.

It is important to keep the fluid intake up during this [1]

If this bird flu ever does turn up here, even if I don't catch it, I think
I'm going to lock myself in my house just to avoid all the nuts peddling
    their remedies and solutions.

One of the reasons they only affect the upper respiratory tract is that
    they're temperature sensitive.

Has it occurred to you that these sorts of 'remedies' date back to a
an era before antipyhritic drugs were known? Also bear in mind that a
fever of almost any sort carried a significant mortality rate, so
there will have been no empirical evidence for this type of approach.

Of course, some old wive's tales have some genuine justification, but
I'd be very hesitant about recommending them just on that basis. What
puzzles me most is how intelligent adults can go through stuff like
this without even a simple idea of _why_ they think it might work.

The link is referring to an elevated temperature, which will tend to
be present, sure, but the idea of trying to _increase_ it by wrapping
up and covering yourself with hot water bottles is another thing
altogether (and yes, I know it's not you proposing that).

The almost universal use by the medical profession swear of
anti-pyrhyitic drugs also tends to support the argument that the risk
of damage caused to the body's systems by high temperature far
    outweighs the potential benefits involved.

    VitC 3 x 500mg thoughout the day.
    Garlic (capsules)
    Paracetamol
    Strong coffee

The last two are only effective while they're in your system.

Avoid dairy products - which encourages mucus production.
