    Wainfleet, Lincolnshire, found this
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/35295373@N00/227967591/in/photostream/
Lightning just stood there in a golf course car park. No plaque or anything
describing it, why it's there, what it's there for etc. I assumed it was a
relic from RAF Wainfleet which is a bombing range now, but don't really know
and can find nothing on the web to further elucidate. The Golf course was
closed for the day and no-one around so I couldn't ask anyone about it. The
only shop I found open in Wainfleet didn't know anything either.

Does anyone know anything about it or can point me where I can find more
    info?

    I've found this http://www.aviation-picture-hangar.co.uk/xs456ab.html
already, but would like to know more, such as who owns it now, why it's at a
golf centre, for instance, indeed I'd just like to know a bit more of it's
    story.

  3. According to _Wrecks and Relics_, it is XS456, and is gate guardian for the
golf range. It used to be at Binbrook, it ex-Lightning Training Flight, 11th
    and 56th Squadron.

OK this is getting annoying now. If you have to underline stuff, can
you at least do it properly[1] so it is underlined, & doesn't just have
a stoopid '_' at the start & end.

[1] You need an '_' instead of a space for multiple words.

Yersh, but in lots of (most?) news clients, it only works if there are
no spaces between the underscores[1]. Replacing the spaces with
underscores fixes it. Besides, only retards would choose tin, Netscape
or Thunderbird over XanaNews or Gravity :p

    [1] Same goes for '*' & '/'.

  6. I ditched gravity some time ago because Thunderbird does everything
(except the URL unwrapping) that Gravity does and is still supported.

It even underlines properly when _people do this_ _instead_of_this_.

  7. Damn shame to see it mouldering away like that, but it must be cleaned
from time to time as the algae on the underside isn't more than a year
or two's worth. I hope it's reasonably looked after so some restoration
group just might be able to do something with it in the future.

Yebbut it doesn't even come in the top 10 of news clients on Cab's
stats. Neither do Netscape or Tin. So if the vast majority of people
reading your post are just seeing fucked up underscores, what's the
    point in using them?

  9. You can take the girl out of early Unix terminfo coding, but you can't take
    the coding out of the...

And, of course, it predates that. Ah, the heady days of 10 cps teletypes.

Anyone here remember Uniplex? Or Logica's VTS?

Ah yes, happy days. The hours I used to spend trawling through Uniplex
code looking for bugs, only to find the problem was down to some muppet
forgetting to underline a book title.

Oh hang on, that's not right...

  19. Ah yes, the four food groups, according to my best friend.
I'll have you know they are all my own.

Well, except for the two fake ones I've had since I was seventeen.
Apparently, they cost about 200 grand, even then.

  20. They are remarkably small teeth, considering what they cost. I could tell
you the gory details.....? It involved several operations and the removal of
part of my right hip. Which is now in my top jaw or thereabouts; cheekbones
to die for. And nary a bike involved.

(QUIET, up there in the peanut gallery.)
