  3. A charge card like Visa gives you a *lot* of purchase protection for
    free. A Debit card doesn't. Using a debit card to take money out of your
    account from an ATM operated by the issuing bank means you don't get
    charged, you will with a credit card.

    When I used to have a Master Card it was accepted in most places world
    wide. Only once in my memory was it not in the choice of cards accepted.
    Twelve years ago when I had an Amex for a short while I found it was not
    usable in Europe in lots of places and in the US at that time it
    actually said on the displayed notice of acceptable card "American
    Express will not be accepted here".
