Hmm, I have a Hitachi widescreen and chose it because I thought it was
a non-pikey make. It's basic but seems to work ok.

You sure Hitachi's are rebadged ?

Stingy. THought for my parents this seemed to result in the opposite of your
    first suggestion.

For me it's not having much effect :)

Err, I hope that wasn't directed at me Ben. I know when to use linux and
when to use XP. And don't bore people with it anymore either.

Does it have digital freeview channels as well as terrestrial tv?

Definitely, the basic Hitachi 28 and 30" widescreens are both rebadged
    Beko / Bush tellys.

Is 'them' here a nifty device which I can plug into my firewire port and
plug any other device such as a tv decoder into the input?

    Err...

Bugger, been doing that for years. Is there a self-help/support group?

No, “them” is the TV decoder it self, most have a component, S-Video or
at least composite video input for digitising video from other sources.

Ubercool. Any recommendations for a firewire tv decoder that I can plug
other stuff like camcorders into to be able to frame grab on the laptop?
