What, a strut brace? Come on Brownz, you can better than that. A couple of AP racing callipers for a start. -- Beav VN 750 Zed 1000 OMF# 19
Do keep up at the back..... I have the GTTuning 'Spiroslot' Brake Discs + Kevlar Pads fitted at the mo, a proper big brake kit is next on the list.
Brownz (Mobile) says... I did performance mods to my SV today. There's an extra 4 to 5 bhp available purely by removing the snorkel from the airbox, and a further 3 bhp if you raise the front of the fuel tank by 15mm. So for the cost of two 20mm tall rubber doorstops and two M6x40mm bolts, which came to £1-16, I have approx 10% more power. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2003/2123035288_fb9ecbf45a_b.jpg and http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2365/2122258961_0bbe7f865a_b.jpg I love cheap power gains. -- Lozzo Triumph Daytona 955i SE Suzuki SV650 K3 Honda CBR600 F-W Yamaha SR250 SpazzTrakka Suzuki GSX-R750L Suzkui TS50X
I said big brake kit, not big bake kit..... Although I do enjoy the occaisional ginsters moment, tis the beer that is my downfall.
Mark Olson says... This is true on a carbed curvey model, but the dip doesn't occur on the K3 injected model I have. It allows more cold air into the airbox, the gap is quite restrictive as standard. -- Lozzo Triumph Daytona 955i SE Suzuki SV650 K3 Honda CBR600 F-W Yamaha SR250 SpazzTrakka Suzuki GSX-R750L Suzkui TS50X
This was The Thing to do with the carbed Bandit 12, with the addition of a 2" diameter hole cut in the airbox right next to the ex-snorkel hole. This was, reportedly, worth a quite remarkable 8 - 10bhp, but a re-jet had to be undertaken if a K&N or a race can was fitted as well. Everybody fitted race cans, so Dynojet did very well out of B12 owners, although the extra ~30 bhp for a jet kit, filter, can and a hole was well worth it.
No doubt there are plenty of do-it-yourself mods that work well, but there are also quite a few mods that don't stand up to scrutiny, yet still get passed around owner's groups on a "trust your butt" basis. Google for "7th gear mod" on the COG owner's forum if you want a perfect example of the latter type of mod. The only mods that I believe in, are ones that *can be* proven by dyno runs or actual performance measurements.
What, a mini that doesn't go very far before it turns round and comes back home? -- Beav VN 750 Zed 1000 OMF# 19
Beav says... This one was built by one of Biz's best friends, and yes, he squeezed a Rover V8 into the front of a Mini. He's currently putting together a Mini Van with a 4.0 litre Rover V8 in the back, and his day to day car is a Mini Clubman with a 16V MR2 2.0 litre engine and box in the front on a home-made subframe, running on a home-brewed fuel-injection system that produces more power than a stock MR2. He's a bit nuts, but a nice bloke really. -- Lozzo Triumph Daytona 955i SE Suzuki SV650 K3 Honda CBR600 F-W Yamaha SR250 SpazzTrakka Suzuki GSX-R750L Suzkui TS50X
brilliant! My last Mini had a fold-forward fibre-glass front end, and a stupid "made out of 3" pipes" exhaust system, but I loved it. Must get another.
darsy says... That'll be what's called an LCB, long centre branch manifold. Unless you buy a quality one and fit a load of engine stabilisers they crack and break regularly. -- Lozzo Triumph Daytona 955i SE Suzuki SV650 K3 Honda CBR600 F-W Yamaha SR250 SpazzTrakka Suzuki GSX-R750L Suzkui TS50X
Simon Wilson says... One of my local mates has a Mk1 MR2 on a C plate with a modified 2.0 litre turbo 16V motor from a Jap spec Mk2 MR2 fitted, recently dynoed at 235 bhp. It's having more mods done over winter which should push it up to about 275 at the wheels. He took me for a drive in it on Sunday, and even at moderate throttle openings it was spinning the rear wheels up in 4th. -- Lozzo Triumph Daytona 955i SE Suzuki SV650 K3 Honda CBR600 F-W Yamaha SR250 SpazzTrakka Suzuki GSX-R750L Suzkui TS50X
Yes. I.Know I broke it most spectaculary ocver the sped bumps outside Crumlin Rd. nick - as I went to pick up the pipe of the road, I had several gents approach me with MP5s.
This one... ....has the weight in the right place, but isn't exactly a Q-car. Much more impressive, though. -- Dave GS850x2 XS650 SE6a "A scone and tea at half past three Makes the day a little brighter Keep your cakes and fancy tarts And stick them up your shiter."
I had a '66 mini with a 1440cc engine complete with 8 port head. It was far too quick for its brakes and ability to go round corners, but great for getting off the mark. Unfortunately, that didn't do the clutch ANY good at all. The new Mini's don't "do it" for me and if I was to stick a bike motor in the back of one, I think it'd have to be from a 'Busa. -- Beav VN 750 Zed 1000 OMF# 19
