Why do people ask a question but then bid before they get the answer?

I've got an auction going and I've said I don't want to post the item
as I can't be arsed to go to wrap it up and take it to the post office
to make sure the postage price is accurate (I expected the item to go
for not very much but the postage to be relatively high and it would be
stupid to subsidise a possible loss on postage from a potentially small
    sale price).

So, I've now got a chap who has asked how much to post it, and before I
replied to say that I'd rather not but if I really have to it would be
    £quitealot, he's bid.

If he wins, I hope he's happy paying £quitealot, otherwise he's got
quite a drive to pick it up.

  2. He might well be. Many people tend to treat ebay as a mailorder
storefront and accept the postage costs on an item they just can't get
    locally.
