What if it's broken during shipping?

  4. You'd need to check that the warranty is good internationally and
expect to pay the best part of 20% on top for VAT and duty plus any
brokerage fees charged by the shipper.

What's so special that it has to be that monitor?

Hmm 20% etc. is not so fun.

I've settled on that one 'cus I have all HP kit, I like the 19" with
the *very* slim bezel which is good in respect of space etc. It also
has everything I want from a monitor.

  6. Ah, fair enough. I have one of these
    <http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sn...y_id=211&first=true&page=productlisting.aspx>
(amongst others) but then my kit is all Dell. A good monitor at pretty
much the same price as your ebay one. Just swap the badges :)

They're available brand new from CHF 676.30 over here, which is about
£290 or $US530 at current exchange rates.

Of course, there'd be some shipping on top, and _theoretically_ one
would have to pay duty on it, either UK if sent from here, or French
if I were to take it across the border.

Hah..swapping badges reminds of how I ended up with the last one.

At work, moving the LCD to another floor, and I had hold of it by the
stand; not knowing that it was one of those detachable one!

Stood at the top of the stairs and suddenly it went <click, whoosh,
clack clack clack!> down the stairs!

Still, after the expected looks of horror, it still worked, but was a
bit dented. So I had that one.

I like the Dell, but you know...'when in Rome...'

I do like the idea of a big one, but I just couldn't fit it in at the
    mo. :)

Not _so_ complicated. I could order one now, get it delivered to work,
then when you're over next month I'm sure we could get it across
duty-free somehow ;-) Then we'd have to send it from France, of
    course.

Oh, and the cheapest I've found now was 662, + 18 shipping (in CH), so
a total of chf680, plus whatever the French post office charges for
    shipping to the UK.

I might have a idea. A friend has a son he visits in Geneva. I'll
find out when he's driving out there next.

You can buy the Dell 2005 20" w/s TFT monitor at the moment at 30% off,
    approx £350.

    Absolute bargain :)
