OT Cool or disturbing?

  1. I saw a figure quoted of 30 million, including the gulags, Ukraine
    famine, but God knows.

    What I wrote was:

Russians in general were better off under Stalinism, if not under
    Stalin,
Depends who you ask and who's paying them.

At the moment, they live in a country run by a KGB man, where you
can't speak your mind, you can't afford to live decently and you'll
die at 55; thirty years ago, they lived in a country run by a KGB man,
where you couldn't speak your mind (although you wouldn't be shot for
it), you could put food on the table and you'd die at 65.

  5. Equally important: there seems to be no rule of law in Russia right now.
Not for Russian citizens: not for foreigners. Nothing.

Considering how long you've been posting under your current moniker,
    nationality seems pretty superfluous.

It's not a spoof. Chances are that some of the Boeing strikers did
appreciate the support (who wouldn't) and maybe one of them, not
unconnected with the PLP, did actually use the words quoted.

Of course, it could be that revolutionary truth dictates that such
words were spoken, whether or not they were heard, and if they were
    not, they should have been.

Organise, yes. Pull off without trouble, no.

There are people for whom that would not have been a joke. Claud
Cockburn got into trouble in the thirties for telling his comrades on
the Daily Worker that they could not print *that*. *That* was a
message from Moscow: `The lower party organs must make greater efforts
to penetrate the backward parts of the proletariat'.

Is this post Stalinism or post communism? If it's post Stalinism have
the figures altered since the breaking up of the old USSR and are we
talking purely Russia or all of the old USSR?

    Same thing.
Russia. Other countries have come out of it a bit better (though not
    necessarily).

While I accept that I probably only met (and worked/socialised with)
Russians who had full time jobs and a reasonable standard of living
none of them wanted a return to the way things were a few years back.

This might not correspond with figures given on the internet but it's
my real life experience gained from nearly a year of working in a
Central Asian (1) country with a lot of Russian workers along with the
indigenous rabble (2). They'd never had it so good.

    (1) That's what they call them now isn't it?

    (2) They stand on the toilet seat to shit so don't tell me they're not
    a rabble.

There are Do Not Stand On Toilet Seat signs in the stalls where I'm
currently working. Might as well not have them for all the good they do.
They don't bother flushing either. Useless cunts.

In the mens bogs in Birmingham Airport an off room has been sprouted. It has
a trough in the floor, several taps above and stools right in front of the
    trough. WTF can it be?

Sounds like a kashmir kahzi to me.

You'll probably find there's a water jug in there too in place of
    toilet roll.
