Ianaa but Photographs don't bother me, I can see how they work. I can
understand the physics behind light falling on plates, and chemical
    reactions and stuff.

But the way that some guy daubs paint on a sheet and it seems to have
the accuracy, life, gloss, light etc. of a photo and that it came from
the mind and hand of a human makes me feel a little 'odd'.
It's kind of 'too good to be real', 'where's the bridge, shark and
    helicopter?'

It's easy enough to find tits on the internet[1], without first having
to suffer some "art" video for a few minutes.

[1] I found ukrm easily enough.

See my reply to MJC. A fair point. Yes the big names were *behind* those
calculations. Not exactly a straight analogy though is it? In any case,
I for one don't know who the **** the last two are.

People who have some interest in mathematics or science.

Can you name all of the artists whose work features in the morphathon?

riemann: german mathematician who did a lot of work on n-dimensional geometry,
    expecially remembered for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riemann_sphere

knuth: american informatician who pioneered the computational complexity
    analysis of algorithms.

OK, not a claim for 'society' or 'civilization' then. TBF a 'western' is
also probably needed in respect of the art recognition in a way that the
    science is not.
No, OK you win, I omitted the word some. I still maintain that the link
between looking at work of art and making the connection with the
(original) artist, is more direct. I'll grant that it's not absolutely
direct to forestall the "but have you actually seen the genuine original
work or just a reproduction or photograph" question.

I wouldn't claim to be a polymath, but I do find the total dismissal of
the role of art in making us human depressing. I can't think of anything
more hellish (for want of a better word) than a totally utilitarian
society. No art, non-fiction literature, music, gourmet gastronomy (a
clumsy term but you know what I mean)...

Everyone dressed like Chairman Mao and living in featureless concrete
apartment blocks. Given your political leanings, however, perhaps you
    disagree?

Well certainly nobody could accuse him of being averse to a bit of
    gourmet gastronomy.

see my other post: it needs a more appropriate (very minimalist[1])
