OT Cat about to be down - what do I tell eldest?

Cat haters feel free to **** off at this point.

I don't think my 18 year old cat is going to be coming back from the
vets today. He didn't eat at all yesterday and barely the day before,
he's stick thin and very weak.

He was one of a litter from Edison, the first cat I had after leaving
home. She had 4 kittens, born 3 weeks before my son in 1990. We kept
two of them this one, a tabby with a clear M marking on his head so we
called him Monty, which left his sister as Python, though she got
called Boggle as she had sticky out eyes.

She got run over in 1994, I remember going to tell eldest and him
saying 'that makes me very sad' before bursting into tears.

So, with the wonders of modern technology how do I tell him? His
sister has been told not to put anything on facebook, an email seems
harsh, I don't think I can talk on the phone without crying - actually
I know because I've just told ex husband.

Leaving it until he comes back seems wrong.

I suppose in fine UKRM tradition i could tell him it's his fault as
the cat pined away - but that's the other remaining cat, the siamese
17 in December and has barely left his bed since he left.

This being catless looks like it is going to happen sooner than I
    thought :(

The young don't see email as harsh, I reckon that'd be fine.

Or you could just text him now, saying the cat is off to the vets and
it's not looking good... then he'll get the message when he wakes at
    the crack of noon.

Could you let Ant know? I doubt Matt will give a flying **** but Ant
    was always fond of Monty.

No need for that, a quick visit to the cat home should provide suitable

All may not be lost, I took our 16 year old to the vet 3 weeks ago
under similar conditions. After taking blood tests etc they gave him
a tonic injection and he has perked up and looks like he will be
    good for a while more.

18 is a bloody good innings for a cat though, so our thoughs are
    with you.

Would 'c u @ rnbw brdg' be too subtle, do you think?

a bit vague, maybe 'Cat fail' would be better.

Done, he was awake and off to a lecture. He's being his usual stoic
    self.
The big fat ginger one still pops in occasionally, he lives over the
fence with Dorothy. He must be over 10 years old now.

  15. Just tell eldest: "You know you wanted a new pair of gloves...?"
So get more cats. Works for us.

    Poor pussy :-(

I keep thinking my 17 year old one will be going that way soon, but
then I see her sat up a tree pawing at a pigeon or pouncing on mice in
the field & think she's got some life left in her yet.
I see you've got that one covered now - well done.
Don't suppose you want a rabbit & a guinea pig?
