My Volvo 760 had a cure for this. There was this sensor thingy that
simply turned off the electric's to one side of the engine if it felt
    the wheels spinning.

Mind you planting your right foot hard when in the beginning of a damp
corner was still good fun even with only 1.3 litres of fuel injected
    backslash three to play with.

By saying that auto boxes are fine if they let you change gear manually?

Sounds like unwitting agreement to me.

Wartburgs had that too. I always wanted a Warty, but only because they
were 2-strokes. I never figured out when or how to use the freewheeel on
my 96, so I didn't bother with it.

The SAAB freewheel was a hangover from the 2-strokes. It disappeared when
    the 99s came in.

My Saab had a 2 litre Ford V4 engine that had been fitted in a Corsair
    2000E and then a Capri MK1 GTXLR.

The 95/96 V4s were equipped as standard with the 1500 engine originally
developed for the Ford Cardinal, which IIRC was a different (and not just in
    displacement) engine from the Corsair.
