Renewal time is here again. This time it has totally baffeled me though,
can any of you work out why it is cheaper to with two drivers on.

I.e. Me on my own 23 yr old male, paramedic £850ukp
Me plus my mum 57yr clerk (driving for 27 yrs no accident etc)
    £830ukp
Me plus SO 20yr student nurse (driving 2 yrs no accident etc)
    £798ukp

Any one have a 17yr old daughter that I can borrow for a year?

Statistics show women make fewer claims than men. Insurance companies
deduce that women must be better drivers although there could be other
reasons that they do not claim.

Men in their 20s are the most likely to make a claim.

Anything that keeps you out of the driver's seat is good as far as the
    insurance company is concerned.

Make sure you tell them that you are not the main driver. Register the car
    in the SO's name.

Why do people write things like this? I mean, "Statistics show'?
What's that supposed to mean - that it's not actually true or
    something?

I wrote it because that is what I meant. From my inference in the next
sentence you might detect a slight cynicism.

If writing something for an academic study I would put the name of the data
source i.e. something like "statistics in Social Trends 34 show......".
This allows you to agree or disagree with the findings by quoting other
data or offering a critique of the methodology.

You can't always use statistics to determine if something is true. More
often than not it is a case of saying something is likely to be true if we
are willing to accept x% error.

Nope, in a radio program a few years ago someone that does the
calculations for ins co's said that women had cheaper claims rather
than less claims, most were for low speed bumps in town where as most
younger male claims had more serious damage and / or injury payouts as
    well.

I read recently (or quite possibly heard), that women have (and claim for)
more scrapes and dings but although men have proprtionately less accidents,
when they do crash, they do it properly and write the car off. Hence the
weighting. I admit this isn't conclusive since it's one of those "I read
    this somewhere.." type of things.

  17. tell ya what.you can have her and then she can drive you up the wall,
con you out of money and make you feel old.

I didnt feel old until she moved in.

she called me 'wild' yesterday. 'Wild'! whats wild about going to
work, coming home and slobbing in front of the TV?

her answer? ended with 'wanting to marry her dad'.

    *sigh*

still, its fun shocking her with some of the stuff we've done in the
past. her boyfriend wants her to borrow my thighboots.

  20. I didn't say I wanted the picture - it would be helpful for Adie to be
able to point and laugh at it at appropriate moments when boyfriend /
Andy's daughter require some incentive to behave.
