Thanks to the kindly peeps at National Lottery HQ I have a little bit of extra wonga[1], so have booked a flight at the end of Feb to visit a mate in Boston for a long weekend. Thurs - Mon back on the overnighter. Any hints on must do things to see, eateries to visit and bars to linger and fall over in ? [1] - Share of £90,000 from our syndicate down the local.
Union Street Oyster House, the little bar - clam chowder, Sam Adams and as many oysters as you can eat.[1] Legal seafoods.[2] Nice. [1] Think I'll head off to pier 39 now. [2] " "
There's a nice long road of bars just near the Red Socks baseball ground. Some of these are micro-breweries.
For me it was walking the Freedom Trail and having the reminder of what America should/could be about. http://www.cityofboston.gov/freedomtrail/ Union Street Oyster House. Any of them. Though the night at the lesbian bar singing karaoke is still in my top ten nights out of all time. Nice.
PS The squirrels on the common will climb up your legs if you sit down and they think there's a chance of food.
He doesn't get out much..... and is coming down from Portsmouth where I believe they live a fairly sheltered life..... 50 of us iirc so it works out at about £1800 each, which is better than a kick in the nadgers at this time of year - but I'm not going to retire to that little place in the Var I have my eye on quite yet ! It was the boxing day draw - 5 balls plus the Bonus Ball = £90,487, shame it wasn't this Saturday really - it would have been a prize fund of £231,349. Cheers for all the suggestions everyone.
Pat says the Freedom Trail and the Aquarium. The youngsters hang out in Harvard Square. She says to take warm clothing, and she'll ask her daughter, who lives just outside Boston, if anything else springs to mind.
Novelty, but layout is completely different and food was disappointing. The bar (also known as the Bull & Finch Pub) is only about 500 meters across the Boston Common from the origin of the Freedom Trail. Freedom trail was superb with a guided tour but I don't know if tour guides operate in the winter. Salem is good too.
I went to some bar/restaurant in Boston some years ago, called something along the lines of "Shit Sams" where apparently the idea is to insult you whilst you order and eat. The food's okay, but Merkin insults are crap. They had one of those crane grab games where you could stick in a dollar bill and try to catch a lobster, which they'd duly cook for you. That was fun.
we hired a rental car and went driving all over the shop; Concord (sp?!) was very pretty as was Cape Cod, and Cambridge. We went and did the touristy thing at Salem. Did lots of walking around Boston, fantastic. Watch out for New Hampshire "live free or die" ! Stay away from the diners if you don't want to put about 3 kg's on in 10 days (I did).
