"Teachers have confessed to making snap judgements about children from
    their names on the register."

Interesting article from a number of perspectives. Parents lumbering
children with 'target' names, we've done before.

"One mother said she had complained to the Department for Education
and Skills, saying: "I and many other parents are disgusted by the
attitudes of the teachers on the forum. "

"I realise this is a small number of teachers, but they have taken
time out of their day to post these comments and I presume... they
actually mean what they are saying"

Sense of humour failure or valid point?

That's my view. Though wtf are the teachers doing on a web forum when
they have all that marking to moan about?
I've represented a teacher who was ultimately sacked for this. The
    sheer stupidity was mind boggling.
    I'm still convinced he's a pupil :)
I sat and had a think and decided they had a point. All the double
barrelled ones I've encountered have been poorly behaved brats. And
all the girls had pierced ears in infant school.
Plus the demographic of the children you're likely to encounter.
If he can tear himself away from that marking :)

  3. SoH failure. I went and found the original thread [1] after someone
pointed out that apparently Adrienne's were "kiss of death - spiteful,
sneaky or both" according to the article in the daily Mirror. The
actual text in the thread was "My own 'kiss of death' name is Adrienne
    - they always seemed to be spiteful, sneaky or both".

    journalism at its best.

Pass. There's a girl in this world called Holly Oakes. Now, although
it's horrible assumptions on my part, I can't help but suspect the
worst of the parents that would a) have the lack of imagination, b) to
think it was a good idea and c) actually inflict the name on the child.

Certain names will conjure up an image of a home life of wayne and
waynetta slob. I used to think there were a standard set of
child/pupil personality types, and although the names would change from
class to class, you'd have groups of names that would suit a given
personality. Teraways included names like wayne, jay, gary, etc to
contrast with the promising emmas and rebeccas.

While the thread is probably teachers letting off a bit of steam and
sharing experiences with a bit of exaggeration and
frustration-releasing aggression there could be something to it.

I registered on bounty.com for a laugh. All conversations were about spiders
    and moths.

I don't trust Henrys, scared of the rain and think they're something

But they're always neglected in favour of Thomas. It's no wonder they
    turned into hyprochondriacs.

When I worked in the civil service we had a claim from a Peter Piper, but by
far the strangest was a guy called "Rainbow Moonbeam". I phoned him to check
it and his reply was that he changed it in the 60's.

I have an uncle (by marriage) called Rupert Bear.
