OT Back from the HUMM

  1. A quick skim and I can't see anyone mentioning this already, but we're
    back from the HUMM.

Team Furieaux 01, of which 50% was Wavy Davy of this parish did
reasonably well. After they'd spent a full day sorting the front brakes
    on one of the bikes.

Team Furieaux 00, of which Spete and I were 66% along with a non UKRMer
reading the maps managed to come a remarkable[1] 3rd in class (18
finishing teams) and 5th overall (27 finishing teams and half a dozen
    DNF's).

Not quite sure how that happened, but apparently our plan of "Don't do
much planning and just ride" seemed to work. Lovely trails, lovely
twisties and the DRZ400s from Dave performed flawlessley. Looking
forward to next year, and HUM2012 which will be Morrocco.

[1] as in "how the **** did that happen?" and "are you sure there
    wasn't a calculation error?".

    Very interesting.

Getting my lad started at Trials school started me looking at bikes. Not
uber gay stuff like Ogden, Darsy and Zymurgy might buy. Proper WR450 type
    stuff.

  5. That's the puppy, and yes, it was a great trip.
At the 'awards dinner' every finishing team was mentioned, so after
hearing about the teams in the big bikes class, we were listening
eagerly to the small bikes class awaiting our team to be named. When
they read out the 4th place team, and it wasn't us, we sort of looked
at each other a little confused, "surely they must have missed us out
of the list?", and then we heard it.

Very surreal moment. Moreso given that we're three novices (I haven't
even been on a road bike since 2008, dirt bike since 2006 and this trip
more than doubled my total hours on a dirt bike). In the 2.5 days of
riding hours, we covered over 600kms of mountain twisties and trails
(ranging from gravel paths to seriously steep, boulder laden tracks
that we couldn't complete). Ride it like you stole it never applied
    more.

  6. Likewise, and nice to meet your fella and see the new place too.
No problem - there's always next time!

  7. It started with the Cloggy getting into misadventure, but I think he
learned his lesson from the last time around.

Hmm, is that Burley I see in the water ?

Nah, nothing gay about an MT500, particularly when kicking it over and
it won't start in front of a crowd of chortling onlookers.
