    And having nntp timeouts when trying to read messages ?

    My laptop's been doing it since lunchtime, and has been rebooted a couple of
    times.

    I gave up in NTL/Virgin's news servers a few months ago

    Now using news.motzarella.org which is free

    I thought it was just my bloody computer. It's been doing it for months, so
    I just switch to another NG and things work as "normal".
