Might as well be. God forsaken humid hot wasteland.

You can get a bus from the airport to the Blue Lagoon, at least you
could when I was there in March '05.

  4. It'll be my second visit.
If I go it will be my second visit to Japan. The first was bewildering
and I got a bit of a dicky tummy which put me off at the time. The
people though were great and the whole pace and sense of society is very
different to the West. I've decided I'd like to give it a second go.

Some bits of Florida are only 75 miles from the tropics,
which is close enough by American standards.

I was jetlagged to hell when I landed there, and have the same view,
it's somewhere I want to go.. even if I can't understand the writing.

  9. Alone - no one to annoy, no one to upset me. Sad I know.

I found the place a bit odd [1] the first time I went but still have
fond memories of it. The Zoo [2] was fantastic as were the Botanical
Gardens - orchids growing everywhere. I love Asian food so the mix of
Malay, Indian, Chinese and local cuisines is just fantastic - I can
still remember a brilliant curry I had. The weather was peculiar - huge
rain shower every day at 11.57 for about 5 minutes and you'd be dry
within minutes. Apparently December is very wet so I'll see whether it
is possible to fill up the absolutely huge storm drains or not!

[1] an apparently crime free society full of order and control. Yet the
newspapers were full of reports of people murdering their neighbours
because they were noisy or broke some amazingly petty rule like putting
the rubbish down the communal refuse chute on the wrong day.
[2] I'm not normally a fan of such things but the whole place is very
well done and the range of tropical creatures is quite something.

  10. And me - I don't see what an opinion on one thing should always inform the
other. (Not that I am particularly socially conservative.)

  14. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique,
I say, steady on Captain! That'd put a right crimp in your early
    retirement plans.

  15. Go on then, why is it ridiculous? Even the ex husband got where I was
coming from (5 years too late) though I can't borrow the flat as his
work have given everyone draconian rules following some all weekend
    parties in them.

  16. Probably. I know what I mean.

Lazy link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yule gives both winter solstice
    and archaic christmas uses.
I want to celebrate the solstice, I have friends round, have food, a
    fire, candles and booze.
It does, it's different, it's not christams. Maybe you have to be
there. Want to come over for Yule?
Well as we're doing sweeping generalisations, I shouldn't expect
    emotional understanding from a bloke.
