OT Anyone been to Iceland?

  1. An idea, again it's a long flight which loses near enough a day either
end, I'm constrained by child care other wise I'd have done 21 days on
    a safari or something similar.
It's somewhere I want to go certainly.
It's not the jetlag so much (my body clock is screwed anyway) as time
    lost in transit.
    Thanks. Fod for thought.
heh, also somewhere I want to go.
Son has asked that his 18th is a Japan trip. A fine idea.

Yeah, good service. And completely free of charge.
It is Sigvaldi actually and yes it is an Icelandic name.

  3. Thanks for that, I knew it was cyclical but hadn't checked where we
    were in it.
I was thinking about taking my folio copy of the main sagas with me
    and reading that.
This is a '**** it, life is short' trip and probably the last time
I'll be able to justify flying to my environmental conscience so I'm
at the not caring about expense stage.

These two statements do not fit well together.

    But that's your problem, breeder.

Did they use to do Concord day-trips[1] to the arctic to see the aurora?
If so, that would have been spot on for travel plans like that :)
Pehaps the environmentalists are happy they now are grounded.

    [1] or night-trips, more correctly

Don't ever, ever come here. It's dreadful. Slightly surreal, but still
    dreadful.

  10. Why not try somewhere where it is just another day? Ok, Muslim countries
are out by your preferences, so are all Christian countries, but that
leaves a fair bit of the world. Ok, Asia; the parts of it where M or C
    hadn't made inroads.

    Try Vietnam/Cambodia/Laos.

All the landmines you can eat.

  12. Having just about kicked myself out of the blue funk I was heading
into earlier I think I'm going to ask the ex husband if I can borrow
his posh london flat (he'll have the kids at his house up here) and
volunteer for Crisis at Christmas for the week.

  14. For me Yule is about the solstice and isn't about a religion (though I
find my pagan friends way of celebrating far more appropriate than a
lot of others) but a welcome return of the light. Plus, any excuse for
a really big fire. As an agnostic what little spirituality is left in
christmas doesn't speak to me. The sun coming back does.
What I dislike about christmas is its omnipresence and the
    commercialism.

    Good choice
Vague ideas of a first ski holiday. I think I have your email address, if
it's still valid I'll pass it on to her.

I didn't eat any killed species when veggie, which is to say I did eat eggs.
Not to be pedantic I still wore leather goods and occasionally sacrificed a
large prawn on the altar of my human frailty.

I was always tempted by lamb mindewe, I don't like sheep.
