Oh go on then, if I must.
Why does it have 'resonance'? And, for that matter, why are you
    butchering the english language so?

I said it sounded pseudo-religious based on your comments about it
being a pagan festival, which clearly is religious, coupled with your
implication that you're not actually a pagan yourself, but are happy
to celebrate parts of their beliefs along woth them, hence
    pseudo-religious.

    Happy now?

If you were paying attention you would recall that at no time did *I*
use the term 'Yule'. That was WiP. She can answer for herself.
You are right to point out that the first people to mark them as
significant would not have called them solstices or equinoxes. They
probably had a fairly imprecise understanding that it was the middle of
winter or the beginning of spring. I suspect even the earliest farmers
would have words for the seasons and have noted the spring equinox in
particular in relation to the signs of the zodiac. The solstices were
particularly easy to measure because they mark the limits of movement of
the sunrise on the eastern horizon. That is their special importance and
so they were marked. For me, that makes them important what ever you
call them. If it will mollify you I will hereinafter refer to
celebrating midwinter's day. To make my point, if I lived in the
antipodes I would have a big binge on 21 June or whatever for the
reasons that I gave up there ^^^.

Oh and I do know about precession : "This is the dawning of the age of
    ...."

  3. I was using Pete's description.
I'm not, but I don't think Pete is either. It's clear what he meant.

    Which comments?

You're celebrating christmas and you're not christian, yes? How does
    this differ from marking Yule?
You use christmas as a shorthand for the December 'whatever it is to
you', I was using Yule in a similar fashion.
    I've stated clearly I'm not a pagan. I'm agnostic.
No, I said I can see worth in how they mark them, not that I celebrate
    with them.
Ah, so paganism is pseudo religious in your view?
Well you've completely failed to answer why marking an event (not
specifically the solstice) is PRC or said if there are some aspects of
your life you mark but whether you do that or not does not impinge on
any transitory sensations I may or may not feel.

Do you need the tongue in cheek smiley here?

Given its supposed etymology, I'd rather have expected you to claim
    the title, tbh.

  19. I'm not saying anyone else is wrong about it, just that I don't want
    to do it.
Have I claimed that? The threads so long now I'm getting confused.
    pseudo-religious claptrap
Not scorn, just don't want to celebrate it.
Only one of them involves people proselytising, how's that for
    removing the inconsistency?
    Excellent.
