Did you slip out of your new "I'm Welsh" mode and back into your
previous "I'm Mancunian" mode especially for that post?

But I have proper dual nationality/citizenship, with two passports.
I'm allowed to play that game.

Which is exactly the position I'd be in if Wales had its own passports.
(Mother's family from Cardiff, which is where most of my living
    relatives live)

They guy may have personally been a bit of a ****, but I look at what he
    achieved.

He had a massive influence in the popular culture of at least one
    generation.

The Happy Mondays and a ravers club. Most of the rest was shit.
All he ever did IMO was be unsufferably smug when he had zero to be smug
about. A nightclub with pretty shit music and a major drug problem, a record
label with possibly 2 half-decent artists and a spot reading the news
doesn't put him in "Musical Messiah" territory.

Guy was an unsufferable wanker who's finally fucking shut up.

As for the Scouse V Mancs thing, he was only mildly irritating on that
front. Nowhere near as bad as that Prick Hucknall.

That's a very narrow and naive opinion of it all.
First person to show the Sex Pistols on TV, first person to sign up
Madonna for a live UK gig, there are many, many other, lesser known
reasons why he's declared as a 'Musical Messiah' in many circles.

That's not really a claim to greatness though. Hardly a major acheivement.

    first person to sign up
Madonna is one of the reasons I'm glad the fucker is toast.

I think it took some bottle to do it, and gave the punk scene it's first
    real media exposure.

We'll never know if the Sex Pistols would have achieved what they did if
they hadn't been screened, but I'd say it had a pretty big influence
    over what happened.

Maybe. We possibly would have had something much greater if they hadn't.
Prog rock was dying before the Pistols turned up and the likes of the Clash
were already beginning to be noticed.

Given the choice, I'd have gone for whatever else was about.

Well, given the influence that the Pistols had on music I'd say it was a
significant event. Whether or not it was a significant achievement is
another question but he was certainly responsible for giving punk
    airtime.

  18. I remember the Sex Pistols era with great fonness. All that shite disco
music, and then all of a sudden - the Pistols. It was like living had
    just been invented.

Instead of whining on like a kid with no toys why don't you try
googling to see how much stick this alleged clique member has been
given since he's been posting to the group?
Don't you mean hole in the floor?
