First there was the rather useful "1kg to some other stupid weight
    measurement" thing.

Now you can get word definitions too.

For instance, putting in "define twat" returns :

Web Definition: twat - a man who is a stupid incompetent fool

I was quite surprised to find that www.google works as a valid url.

  5. have you tried the google deskbar? I can't work out if it is a good
thing or not. That and the fact that I use the mouse a lot anyway (I
tend not to write stuff, just cut and paste between apps) means i
don't use it enough to have evaluated it.

  6. It doesn't do biker. though biker is in dictionary .com so I find that
    a tad odd.

You either have 'com' in your search order [1] or your browser is
filling in bits of URLs for you [2]

www.google is certainly not a valid URL. It's not even a valid hostname
(for the pendants on the group)

    [1] Settings / Network / Interface / Internet Protocol / Properties /
Advanced / DNS / 'Append these DNS suffixes (in order)
When you enter a hostname, it appends each of these, in sequence,
and does a DNS query for the hostname that results until it finds
a match. If none return a positive result, it queries for the
hostname as you entered it. If that doesn't match, it either fails
or your browser takes you to some dodgy search page.

[2] Some browsers do the above process for you, assuming everything
    is a .com

[3] A URI consists of a method, a hostname and a file path.
    [http://] [www.google.com] [/]

Nope. To me, Google is a search engine rather than a way of life.

    hah!

    it's a *perfectly* valid hostname.

it's *not* a valid /FQDN/, according to ICANN's root servers.

Yep , thats just it , I know it should never work.
I know that there isn't a top level domain by the name of google , and my
    browser certainly isn't auto completing.

I suspect its some oddity caused by the DNS servers at work , but thats far
too technical a thought for this time on a friday.

I'll check out some of the possible causes mentioned when I can be arsed.

ok, I should have said it's not a valid *public* domain. It's
perfectly fine on a private DMZ or LAN.

    Still, it's a valid hostname ;-)
