not asking you for money. They're not sending you cards to forward.

 

Who mentioned donations or cash? It's a campaign, begging people to send
Christmas cards.

 

Really? But I don't see any problem with those at all - after all,
_that_ is what the festival is based upon, regardless of one's view of
it's origins.

But that's not what they're doing - they're saying, "Hey, it's
christmas, when you're having a good time and making a complete
glutton of yourself; here's something to make you feel bad and a way
of negating that bad feeling by 'doing something'." And frankly, I
find it fucking annoying.

The cost of cards etc is actually fairly trivial. The real problem is that
they're trying to take up one of your tuits.

I'd be interested to know exactly how many prisoners in the UK Amnesty
helps, incidentally.

 

The opening hours Sainsbury keeps, most of us.

 

I use the ones that aren't crap and send a pro-rata amount off to the
relevant charity. I'm quite impressed that some folks out there can
print off thousands of cards, mail them and lick stamps with their feet.

Let's be honest, how much more gluttonous are you at Christmas than any
other time of eyar? When you fancy a beer or a bottle of wine or
whatever throughout the year, how often do you stop yourself and say
"hang on, let's rein this back a bit, it's not Christmas yet"? I'm
guessing never.

It's precisely during this time- a time where the only difference in
debauchery is that everyone's telling you to push the boat out and max
out that credit card- that a dose of the darker side of reality is
relevant. You stuff yourself every fucking time you feel like it,
holiday or not, why shouldn't the charities attempt to grab some of
your time and cash when you're so busy thinking you're doing what you
want to that, by the way, so coincidentally goes along with the
marketing brainwashing that is piped through every media pipeline?

 

Not forgetting paint the cards with their feet, as well.
