"Amnesty International's annual Greetings Card Campaign brings people
across the world in touch with each other in a simple way - sending a
card with a friendly greeting or message of solidarity to someone who
is in danger or unjustly imprisoned. These are prisoners of
conscience, people under sentence of death, human rights defenders
under threat because of their work, and others at risk.

The campaign, which runs from 1 November to 31 January, offers hope
and encouragement to the people who receive our cards. It can also
help bring about change - the impression their international mail
makes on police, prison staff or political authorities can help keep
    them safe."

As we watch civil liberties here solely erode we can take the time to
do something simple for those who have lost already.

    Kin right on.

Take today as an example. It seems there is not only me who is
complaining to all the staff I talk to about the noisy floor in
halfords. We can become a movement if we all try hard enough.

Hmm. I was about to write this off as a token gesture. But you're
someone whose views I generally respect. More research required.
    Low blow.

He was asking for it. If Ben hadn't done that he might have come back
    with some more.

Probably best to give him another one to make sure he stays down.

Whilst I would normally disagree with your violent propensities, in this
situation I am prepared to make an exception.

    FINISH HIM!

    The Older Gentleman tossed off:
    I remember him.

Poor little sod got crushed by the sheer weight of business cards
    delivered to his house.

So there are some bits of chistmas you're happy to go along with,
then? And some of the worst bits, IMO.

Oh, nothing, I'm sure. But to my mind the very worst thing about
christmas is the spate of 'season of goodwill' begging campaigns.

  11. If the Amnesty campaign is "forwarded" in the same way, then I imagine
the end result would be similar. Not that I've anything against the
Amnesty initiative, mind you. I am just ever-so-slightly sceptical about
    the likelihood of its success.

  13. It's a possibility, wouldn't you agree?
Quote from OP: "It can also help bring about change - the impression
their international mail makes on police, prison staff or political
authorities can help keep them safe."
Oh, it's worthwhile, laudable, and touchy-feely-cuddly. I'm sorry, but
    I'm not.

  16. The campaign runs from Nov to Jan as in previous years.
Ok I'm whooshed here, how is the amnesty campaign a 'worse bit'?
