Leonard Cohen is mainly a poet, so you have to listen to the words
preferably whilst well chilled.
He is an undisputed genius and one of the most influential musicians
to come out of the sixties folk scene.

well, IIRC, you like Richard Thompson. RT is heavily influenced by LC

Unlike LC, RT can entertain you by his guitar playing alone. However, if
you skip listening to RT's lyrics then you are missing out.

You don't have to like LC but appreciate he exists and has influenced later
artists. It's a sort of Thatcher/Blair relationship where the follower has
better presentation and marketing...

 

Chill out, listen past the voice and grok the words.
If you have a soul it will respond.

 

That'd be me, perhaps, although I've only got one of his albums,
containing the wonderful "Vincent Black Lightning, 1952" track.
