Mine gave no problems at all while I had it. I hear Mike Barnard had
problems with one of his, but as long as they're stripped and cleaned
regularly they don't act up. At least the tacho diagnostics let you know
    when the Exup is sticking.

You know of one, I know of three. I've travelled around bike dealers for
years, you meet lots of faces in my job.

That isn't what the 1 referred to.

You'll have to think about this a bit longer.

ITYF The Ace outlived the ZZR1100 by roughly two years.

Not too convinced about the build quality though, windscreen wedges itself
    into cars.
Ok, it took a bit of blunt force, but I managed :)

That would be the shitty 600 pretender, the 1100 would have taken the
    front end off a Renault.

It's a Renault ffs, a strong wind would take the front end off.

  12. ....and although it appears to be a bit of a parts bin special (1) and
so therefore wasn't cutting edge for the time, it came out a few years
    after the first ZZR1100.

Whatever... so long as I can ride one in reasonable comfort, I'm hoping
to get one of these or maybe a ZX9R sometime around or before the
    spring.

    (1) Essentially a YZF750 frame with FZR1000EXUP engine, as I understand
    it.

It was never going to be a Fireblade beater and tbh was too bulky
looking to be classed as a pretty bike. The very under-rated RF900
suffered the same fate. Blame the press, they were Fireblade mad at the
time. Things changed with the R1's launch.

Correct, in an accountants overcoat without the shellsuit graphics of
the YZF. It also made a little bit more power than a FZR1000 Exup.

  14. I've been looking on ebay in recent months - there's normally at least
three of them up for grabs at any one time.

Now and again if you're really lucky, one even comes up without damaged
    bodywork! (1) ;-)
Strange... I mean you can understand why when it was playing second
fiddle to the R1, but prior to that... maybe people favoured the ZX9R
and 'blade more, with the latter certainly more focussed (2)

    (1) They all seem to have cracks around at least one of the fairing
holes where the indicators pass through, and little else... which
suggests to me either the owners tend to be hamfisted cunts, or the
    side stand isn't all that.

    (2) For 'focussed', read 'bloody uncomfortable for any distance over 20
miles, at least for the more portly lanky types such as myself'
