I'm after a Transalp, a V5 2005 model with 3k on the clock, comes highly specced up with luggage &
heated grips & all manner of datatool security.

    Is £3500 gonna buy it?

    Any known issues?

    Any help very gratefully received

A very under-rated bike. It makes a good commuter, especially in town and
is capable of taking 2 people to the Alps. I'm not aware of any issues:
they seem to last forever. A mate bought a 600cc version 12 years ago and
it is still going strong. The most annoying problem with it was an
intermittent starting problem. Annoying for me as it coincided with a trip
to the French Alps and it was me who had to push the fucker to get it
started. Problem was eventually diagnosed to an intermittent electrical
contact in the starter motor. Fixed by a £50 refurbishment. The only other
items replaced have been through normal wear & tear of brake, clutch,
suspension etc. He has a Scottoiler which extends chain life to around 20k.

The newer bike is much better. Especially the brakes as the early ones had
    a single disk.

Autotrader shows a few dealers with bikes of that vintage up for around
£4k. I'm sure they would haggle down to the price you mention if you have
no p-ex. Cash in their pocket now is better than a bike sitting in the
showroom for 6 months. Most owners are like my mate: buy one to keep
forever, so used examples will be few and far between. Those in dealers are
likely to be part exchanges from DAS qualified riders trading up to a 1
    litre bike.
