Operation BlingFettle

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Wicked Uncle Nigel, May 18, 2005.

  1. Operation BlingFettle has begun.

Trundling home tonight I was pondering the growing list of "tuits" for
    the BlingMobile. It currently reads:

    Slow puncture in rear tyre
Fuel tank needs cleaning, filling and repainting
"Clonk" from front end over bumps needs investigating
Couple of snapped / seized fasteners need drilling out and replacing
Top box cubby hole hinge needs a replacement manufactured
    Wiring abortions need sorting out
Brake hoses need replacing all round
One rear speaker needs replacing (probably have to get a pair)
Scruffy bits need cleaning / polishing / repainting
    Other stuff

So, on arrival at Eaton Towers (and in a move calculated to guarantee
superb weather for the next few weeks), it was ridden in to the
    workshop[0] and spanners were summoned.

After only a couple of hours work I've found the rear tyre[1], and have
upgraded the puncture repair to a replacement on account of it's squared
off[2] and pretty much down to the wear marks in the middle.

Current ambition is to have it back on the road before my birthday on
June 16th. I'm away for at least two weeks, and one weekend before then.

    Prace bets now!

[0] God, I love saying that...
[1] It was under the topbox all the time!
[2] Stop sniggering at the back

<waits on arrival of shiny red hydraulic ramp thingy>

Must get new light bar, for the attachment of horns/spotlights
thereon. Buy wire. Red and black.
    hehehehe. :)

    Ooh, I've just remembered:

    Check valve clearances
    Balance injectors
I am currently custodian of a non-shiny black hydraulic ramp thingy. It
sort of lifts the Z13, but doesn't look happy. So I'm working with the
    bike on the floor.

I can't help thinking that if ever a bike somehow deserved a proper
inspection pit[1], rather than a ramp, it's the Blingmobile.

[1] or maybe a travelling crane.

Ooh look! A totally vital piece of the race bike!

Wik's collecting it later, oh master.

Cor, it dunnarf look odd wiv no clothes on. That engine is fucking
    *huge*.

Fairing removal, BTW, is eight screws, two nuts, four bolts, one
pneumatic and half a dozen electrical connectors. Easy.

    Read it and weep, Honda-boy.

Fourteen fasteners? Fucking fourteen? You bastard.

    <counts on fingers>

    Cowl 3; lower sides 5 each; glove boxes 4 each; mirrors 3 each;
headlamp grill 2, headlamp 4; screen 5; fairing body 8; fairing inner
6; air tubes 3 each; dash 4; plus others.

    That's what? - 62 minimum.

Of course, the tricky bit is working out where the fairing stops, and
the side panels start. But they have to come off first, so it's not,
    really.

  11. The Trophy is about the same, believe it or not.

I stopped counting at 53, and that was leaving the main central body
    with the headlamp in place.
