I think any middle management job would be the same though, it's the
function of middle management to act as a lossy shit conduit.

You don't work for all that large an organisation, IIRC. So, I'd bet
it's small, managable lumps of shit, rather than a continuous flow of
    corporate poop.

Are you subconsciously writing your CV? Maybe something's trying to tell
    you all is not well.

Bollocks. It is entirely possible to create an environment where
managers' roles, be they lower, middle or senior, are primarily to
solve problems and get work done. It's down partly to corporate
culture and partially to selecting the individuals for the task.

I say this from my position in a very large[1] organisation as a
junior manager looking up at my bosses and from Jude's position as a
senior manager dealing with her peers and subordinates. Without
exception, the focus is on the job and the people, not on propogating
    corporate bullshit.

I guess the main thing is to choose to work in an organisation where
there just isn't 'shit' going on in the first place. One of the
reasons why, after 20 years of EKS, I decided for the first time that
I actually wanted to settle down and be part of something.

[1] 68000 employees globally, as I've just discovered.

It's certainly a mark of the quality of our general practice system.
Colds, flu, mental illness...is there anything they can't cure?

I'm a senior manager within the department, but a middle manager in
the overall org. I deal with shit from above, below, and because of on
aspect of my job function ("business relationship management") from
people at the same level as myself in 3-4 different business units.

I would not presume to tell you that you are doing things wrongly, but
    I would say that I don't "absorb" the shit - it's a trite management
saying, but I do "treat problems as opportunities", not just shit to
    be absorbed.

You're doing that Champ/Ace 4eva thing again. In light of recent events
it's a little too Brokeback Mountain for my liking.
