Just had a phone call from the old man.

The silly sod's been nicked on the A120 doing 120mph on the Pan this
afternoon. The janitor predicted a fine and a ban.

My fiver is on 500 quid and six months.. any advance?

    PS: Any advice for him?

If its a first offence i'd say £300 and three months, and buy some stout
    shoes.

In Oxford Magistrates this morning a cage driver who used his car as a
    weapon to
knock a motorcyclist off his bike, then beat him up, got two year ban, have
    to take
his test again, £300 pound fine and 250 hours community service.

    Cane says...
Sounds about right fine and ban-wise.

Please tell me what the rozzers were driving cos I use the A120 dual-
    carriageway a lot.

Join up with Blur with the overcrowding in prisons campaign and give 'em
bracelets instead. Start writing to your MP and the press in support.
If you can get enough of your local friends and family to join in you
could easily raise it to priority locally as an issue in the next few
months. By the time his case comes up he might get away with it by
hiding in the not so dangerous as a terrorist crowd.

Someone in another group was done for similar recently. £350 fine, 56
day ban, no points. Young lad in an MR2 Turbo.

I reckon that a respectable(ish) older gentleman on a sensible bike
    should expect similar.

  7. A friend of mine was stopped about 15 months ago for 110ish in a 60,
he already had at that time 9 points so I reckoned on a 6 month ban
under the topping up. He actually IIRC got 6 weeks and around £300
fine. About 3 months after getting his licence back he then got nicked
for 120+ in a 70, result was a 2 month ban and a larger fine.
Tell him to mention your name

Just had a phone call from the old man.
Tell him to go to court and explain he was just familiarising himself with
the motorcycle so that he could ride safer in an emergency situation

    Works for TrafPols don't it?

    Advice?

Should only be a 30-day ban for that, plus a fine of around 200 notes,
    I reckon.
"Momentary lapse of reason" " wouldn't normally dream of it" "very
sorry, m'lud" "30 years of clean licence" etc.

  11. In uk.rec.motorcycles, Cane amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom:
I got six months and (IIRC) £275 for a similar speed on the M25.
    Grease up.

Nice, that's something I've spoken about with my mates, the possibility of
doing the speed of the road.
    I know I can do 127mph on the A127 and 130mph on the A130.
The A414 leaves some scope for improvement though.

He's pretty philosophical about it. He said to me today "I've been
riding since I was 15, so including this one they've only caught me
    twice in 50 years!"
    No, retired PE teacher ;-)

At last!! that took a while.

It's probably worth having a decent solicitor in court but ONLY if you
know a really decent "in court" man and he promises to actually do it
on the day and not send some clueless fuckwitted junior.
