Decided to clear a space in the garage for the new arrival.

As often happens, I got distracted.

This time, by the CBX in need of one helicoil, and some spannering. So
    I set to.

Helicoil in, bolts done up, key in, choke, vroom. Not bad for an old
bike that hasn't moved since July.

On wiv me lid, and off I went. Luckily, I remembered that it now
sports new braidied hoses, and new pads all round, so I took it
    careful.

The brakes seem more powerful (though still rubbish), but need more
strength than I currently have in my hand to get the best out of them.
The rear seems fine under a big right boot.

By 'eck it's quiet now the shagged OEM alternator has gone. And
smooth. And all the electrics work. It's fun again, and not a constant
    worry.

On my return, I went to move the Wing. Couldn't get the alarm to
respond, so stuck the key in to activate it. Nothing. Battery is
almost two-dimesional in its flatness. 0.18V apparently. It's one of
    them gel ones, too.

Here's a small prayer to Saint Optimate.

    I'll have another look tomorrow.

Nothing. Zip. Nada. Not even the little yellow light at the bottom
    left of the unit.

Connecting a car charger sets off the alarm, then the CD changer
    starts playing up.

I'm hoping that removing the battery from the bike might help. Or,
    disconnecting the earth, anyway.

Hmm. Little light doesn't come on at first, then the bright green
    "fully charged" light comes on.

    Volts across the terminals:
    approx.

    Sounds like new battery time.

Battery? Battery? The GL1500 has something as prosaic as a *battery*?

I am crushed. I would have thought that a compact Light Water Reactor
would be so much more appropriate.

    I've started my Alfa 75 from a VFR800.

We started Burnt's K1100 from a Transit, after he'd left the radio on all
day. It took us about 20 minutes to find the van's terminals, though.

Not *a* battery, no. It's had several.
    Ah. You're thinking of '98 onwards GL1500s.

    Oh right.

    Why don't you buy one?
