Ooh bugger

I think I might be in receipt of an NIP for exceeding the speed limit
in a 70 before too long (

Going to Edinburgh on Friday evening, passing through the Carlisle area
I noticed two vans on a bridge. Not a problem, used to seeing vehicles
parked on a bridge around our way, no worries.

But, as I got closer I noticed that there were actually three tripods
set up over the three lanes between the two vehicles. Damnundblastid I
thought, as I was in the 85-90ish region.

Now, as it was getting to the rather dark side of dusk, I'm kind of
hoping that they weren't able to get me, but I'm not holding out much
    hope.

Hey hoh, the next couple of weeks watching the post arriving should be
    fun.

Mined ewe, these day it's increasingly "when" not "if".

Did you read the post all the way, or just decide to post your reply
    anyway?

It was very very dusky, my man, and I'm sure there have been occasions
when you have noticed things at the last minute. Lets face it, at 5pm
in the Carlisle area it isn't exactly bright, is it?

Anyway, I bet I've kept a licence clean for longer than a lot of others
around here. And I'm not bleating about 'it's not fair, how can I get
    off' or other such bullshit.

If I've been caught, I've been caught, 3 points and a fine for how many
    years on the road? <shrugs>

No flashes, but they were forward-facing towards the three lanes and I
was in the mothers car, so if they could get the plate..
Aye, but that's the driving life as we expect it now though.

Yeah, and coming back this afternoon on the A74, two police cars had
stopped (presumably speeding) motorists, and there were another two
cars on our side of the A74, obviously on a bit of a blitz. I did
remark to the mother that it is nice to know that they are being paid a
remarkable amount of money in order to enforce the speed limit, at the
same time as having all those static and mobile cameras in place.

It's a worry when you think it would be possible to accrue enough
points travelling across the country in a day to actually get banned,
in the meantime you haven't caused an accident or injury to anyone.

Well, if it's true that bad luck come in threes then expect another 6
    points real soon.

I recently had two zaps within two days. I'm awaiting the third.

Bugger. Mind you, a friend of mine managed to obtain 6 points on one
stretch of road in one day, and 3 points on her return journey, ergo
she was very careful when we were next riding together in the UK.

You might have met her on one of the TOGtours, acksherly.

I read it all the way, but you should read a recent thread titled "the

Standard 3 pointer and £60 at worst, hardly worth worrying about if your
    licence is presently clean.

Ah, righto. Not having had the use of a pooter for 3 days I didn't go
back that far, and I do tend to work from the bottom up.)

  14. Ding! It was like that in '94.
    Precisely.
The days before I left, I made a point of triggering every Gatso I came
across at the most ridiculous speed I could, commensurate with
    self-preservation.

Apparently there were lots of letters arrived for me after I'd gone.

Nope, just prior to that, as the A74 is a dual carriageway. But, you
know when you think 'oh bugger!'. And I checked the route on the way
back (keeping to the speed limits) and there were no tripods on view,
    so, still fingers crossed.
<G> I was talking to a Scoottish person this w/e who has had a bit of
an altercation with an English person who reckons that that Scotland is
nothing more than another county of England! You could say that a lot
of fireworks were sent of verbally with that comment, in Embra that
    evening!

Don't get too excited about this, as it might not be the case - but last
time I saw an arrangement like this (tripod over each lane), that I didn't
notice till to late because, frankly, I wasn't really paying attention, it
turned out to be traffic monitoring stuff. I asked a plod mate when I got
home, and seen as though I went under them at about 90 on a DC I'm assuming
he was right, as nothing ever materialised...

Well, I certainly hope so. But, with the way things are going now, we
are in danger of a lot of good drivers and riders being banned because
of something as simple as breaking the law by a couple of mph, in
conditions that are acceptable to the speed.

In contrast, the number of people that were unhappy with the max 40 mph
that some drivers were doing on the A702 towards Embra on Friday was
surprising, considering the conditions and the fact that they cannot
see ahead, and part of the A702 just before Penicuik had been closed.

No idea, apart from jealuosy for having a beatiful country?
Oh, you should have heard the guy who did the quiz in the place (for
Children in Need) on Friday evening...it took a while to get used to
the accent, then I had to translate to some others nearby. Actually,
some of the Scoottish peeps couldn't understand him either. I just
tried to tune in to Joey Dunlop kind of speak, worked for me )

We were staying in Joppa though, is that really in the sticks?

If it's any consolation there were a few times when I had the same fear.
