Either/Or. Though as operation may be as early as next Tuesday the
    Alps trip is out.
I am not going in a chair - they crash more.
Bonwick has some madness planned, sign up for the elephant list.

    Bugger. Bones not healing then?
Well at least they're doing something soon. Fingers crossed and all
    that. What's the official prognosis?

Not even attempting to heal, lazy fucker. No change in the xrays at
    all.
The consultant is a star, we get on really well so he's going to try
and fit me in next week as a way to get me to let go of his leg and
    stop pleading.
Ta. I think your back healed quicker than my leg is going to.
The most impatient person in the universe has what is known for being
the slowest healing fracture. The tibia only has blood supply to two
sides, healing depends on blood supply.

At the appointment back in July the consultant said if he had to pick
a fracture that wasn't going to heal it would be mine :(

The breakages are over about 6-8 inches of the tibia, it's in a number
of bits, the pin is holding the bits away from each other, first step
is to remove some of the screws to allow the pin to slide in the
shaft, causing dynamic movement of the fracture, so the bits move
closer together and hopefully wake up and start to heal.

If the next xray still shows no healing we move to step two, removal
of pin, if it still doesn't work then it's bone graft time.

It could be worse, I could be you or Frag!

I want to get back on the bike but I am worried the leg will not be
strong enough to hold the weight of me and the bike on dodgy cambered
    junctions.

Don't even think of it, or I'll be just one of many lined up outside
your house waiting to give you a slap.

Michael has put up with me going 'want to go on bike NOW' and 'Not
sure if I'm ever getting on the bike again' for a while now. My mood
    changes with the weather.
    <predictable>

I'm definitely not getting back on the bike.

    <looks expectant>

    Double bugger.
    Bad dog. Down girl,
Well, the bones did, sure, but the soft tissue damage has never
completely 'healed'. Ibuprofen does the job, but it's pretty much a
full-time thing. Be hopeful that when you're recovered, however long
it takes, you'll be completely recovered.
As I've said before, don't fret over that. It's not a big deal in
    itself.
Well I think Frag's gone through a hell of a lot moer than I have, and
although I have pain some of the time, I'm still able to do all the
stuff I did before, pretty much, although perhaps slightly more
cautiously. My skking is officially at a higher level now than it was
    three years ago, for example.
I've seen a couple of people, albeit many years back, whose leg breaks
never healed due to such abuse, and who were eventually relieved to
have them cut off. OK, so they had much more severe damage, lots of
skin and muscle taken off, but they may have made full recoveries had
    they just followed medical advice.

So it may take time, but just let it happen, m'kay?

I'll put money on it there won't be.
I don't know about any of the others but I wasn't planning on making
it an 'open' trip next year. Anyone subscribed to the mailing list
already knows where we're going and if it was my decision alone I'd
close the list to anyone not already on it.

If you think I'm grumpy you need to speak to Burnt.

I've already stated my views on the mailing list but the simple reason
for me not wanting to throw it open is that I'll be spending a lot of
money and a big chunk of my holidays with one purpose in mind and I
don't want it fucking up by anyone moaning about being cold or tired.

Others people are going to the Elefantentreffen and they're not as
    single minded as me.

The week leading up to Chimay was one of the most pathetic displays I've
ever seen from a bunch of grown men.

Wait until we're back from the Alps, last time we did Italy we got
spread all over two countries due to nobody being able to think far
enough ahead to agree how many miles they could do on a tank or what
speed they wanted to cruise at let alone which route they were taking.

I'm going to be constantly playing catch up because the fuel light on
my 10R comes on after about 115 to 120 miles if I'm cruising at about
90mph and if I'm being stupid it'll be about 100 miles. The motorway
bit will be fine but once we're on twisty bits it'll be chaotic.

I suppose I'll have to stop once between each of the scheduled overnight
stops. A large tank and no nicotine habit means my average speed is
unlikely to be much different to the FBC.

Mine usually comes on around 130-140, so with the extra weight & wind
resistance of the luggage plus having to cane it to death on the
straights to try & keep up with you litre boys, I'll be looking for
garages at around 100 miles too I suspect.
