  3. When Thatcher was in power the country was described as being at war
with its self, that was bad, but now, the country seems to have had
war declared on it by the Government with the police as it's agents.

I'm not sure that we do have any civil liberties left do we?

    You can but hope.

I was especially impressed by this quote: " and that officers have
talked about selling the surveillance data to private companies".

Can someone please tell those fuckers who is paying their salaries? Of
course they'll be ignoring any court judgement prohibiting this, in the
fine tradition of the current government.

    <dons tin foil hat>

We've not even seen the worst of it yet.

IMHO, what we've witnessed so far is a seeping quiet erosion of said
civil liberties over the last few years in terms of 'getting the
framework and foundations in place'; in other words, aside from the
odd glimpse in terms of the way protestors at events such as the G20
and Kingsnorth protests have been treated, we've not really seen the
'system' as it were, flex its new found muscles at us... muscles which
    are continuing to grow.

That in turn has led to far too many just accepting ever more measures
of this ilk, without really questioning them or the motives behind
    them.

Ask yourself this; have people in the UK really become so unruly and
out of control over the last few years compared to the past that it
has warranted a continual implementation of legislation aimed at their
control along the lines of what has been brought in over the last
    decade or so?

And when it comes to said legislation, has it been fully utilised at
each stage of implementation to the point that its been proven beyond
doubt that yet more legislation is then needed to achieve the apparent
aims of 'keeping law and order'?

At 20,000ft? Good luck. A better option would be to firebomb the nest. Or
hack the signal and crash a few in Downing Street.

Makes one want to leave the country, doesn't it... ;-)

In all seriousness, if one was thinking of 'fucking off', what are the
best options in terms of not ending up being stuck in the same boat?

I know where you're heading... anywhere else worth considering?

Personally I'm considering 'breaking Australia' soonish, hence why I
was asking about MCSEs and the like in here the other week.

You're living on cloud cuckoo land, if you think any other country is
going to be that different. Especially anglosaxon countries.

    This is why I asked.

Here does seem to be 'leading the charge' in some respects though?

At least in Australia you get a bit of sun... ;-)

Listen to Elvis, he knows best.
I've got a different skill set to you but if I was looking to make
some fast money I'd be off to Sakhalin for a year or two. Ten years
ago people doing the same job as me were clearing over £200k per annum
and I couldn't get anywhere near that in this country.
