    Ya goose ! The 5500 came out 5 minutes ago(replacing the 5000), the 7000
came out 12-18months ago - at that stage it was their top of the range
(and was the best bang for buck option when I bought mine 8 months ago),
undoubtably there will be a 7500 along anytime now with an increase in
    MP and optical zoom.

Quite honestly if you're a sophisticated user enough to get any value
out of the higher shutter speed you're probably better off spending the
money on a proper digital SLR anyway.

BTW do you know that the 7000 has an optional telephoto and wide angle
add on ? The telephoto add on should get you pretty damn close to 10x (I
haven't checked the specs so do check exactly what you get for your money).

"So far Howard's luck has survived a great deal: his move to dismiss
broken election pledges by distinguishing between "core" and "non-core"
promises; his retrospectively time-limited "never ever" pledge on the
goods and services tax; his vagueness about when he committed Australia
to war against Iraq; his shifting standards for ministerial conduct; his
demonising of asylum seekers as child killers; his tendency to blame
"advice" rather than to openly accept responsibility when things go wrong."
Will Howard's luck survive another election ? Do Australians not care
that their PM is a liar ?

sorry, talking about Digi Cameras in gerneral, seems to be a trend
simply not spending that sort of money, only want the fast shutter speed for
    the bikes

    money).

yup, same with most cameras, prolly go the Minolta A1 with the add ons

I would be happy with the Olympus c750 it every area except take photos of
fast bikes, its only weak point, 2 workmates have them and the pics it takes
are great and prints out to A4 beautifully. Can have it landed for about
$450 from Japan (the c755 actually)

not on my research 8-10 months ago - add ons only for the topend ones
(and quality price and usefulness vary wildly)
For the $1400 that will cost you, you can buy a digital SLR ....

Having just checked the price of xD I'd skip the Olympus and Fuji's
unless it has dual slot - SD memory is still half to a third the price
of xD- you can put a 1Gb SD chip in for the price of the xD 256mb

Having just looked at the prices - $850 gets you an S7000 (6Mp/6x), $200
gets you a 1.5x zoom add on(equals 9x zoom) and the 7000 has dual slot
so you can buy CF - $300 for a 1Gb chip and you've still spent less
    money than the A1 bare.

Not trying to sell you just 'cos I've got one, just seems to be a huge
price differential for the same specs there.

Check out the canon deal as well

    http://www.camerastore.com.au/Canon+EOS300D+Kit+-details.htm

$1550 for a digital SLR (after $200 cash back)

    http://www.camerastore.com.au/Nikon+Coolpix+5700-details.htm

Has 1/4000, 6mp/8x zoom is that fast enough ?

    $1000, the S7000 for $50 less

the S7000 is a great camera, dont get me wrong, but I think the A1 is better
    camera $ for $

    <Eyebrows heading skywards> 400-450 off the going discounted/market rate
(not rrp) is bloody cheap! If you can get a $1400 camera for a grand,
    how come you can't get a $900 camera for 500 though ?

Like I said, not trying to sell you, just looking at the bucks. Hell if
there's only $50 in it, of course you'd take the minolta. There's a
reason it costs half again as much as the Fuji....

its a import from Japan, Japanese warrantee thou, just have to send it back
no idea why the price different is only $50 in Japan between the A1 and the
    s7000
maybe Minolta Japan are discounting to win sales?
    no probs
I like the s7000 and if the import from Japan wasn't available, it would be
    top of the list
