"A MAN charged with threatening to blow up Robin Hood Airport on Twitter
    will stand trial next week.

He has denied a charge of sending a message that was grossly offensive
or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character.

The trainee accountant, of Byram Court, Wood?eld Plantation, is alleged
to have posted a message to friends on Twitter that he would blow up the
airport if snow threatened his plans to travel to Ireland from
    Finningley."

    Verdict just now: Guilty.

This comes soon after someone was convicted of "possessing a document
likely to be useful to a terrorist"

    Lunacy. Sheer bloody lunacy.

While observing it's the sort of thing bound to happen when you start down
the slippery slope and remove the right to freedom of speech, movement (and
humour, apparently) don't you think there must be something rather more to
    this?

I knew we were fucked when signs appeared in airports saying "security
related comments made in jest will be treated seriously and you may be
kicked unconcious, stripped naked and shot"

  3. Of more importance is the so-called 'friend' on twatter who dobbed him
in for what was obviously a frustration comment and the utter twat in
the cops/CPS who decided to proceed.
    Knobs all round.

Forget principles or moral arguments: I'm mainly against this on the
basis that it's a waste of our money.

In fact the situation is a bit more nasty, for all Internet users. One
wonders if it is an attempt to set precedent and cement the provisions of
the 1984 Communications Act (updated Communications Act 2003) designed to
deal with nusiance telephone callers, over the heads of Internet users. If
successful then China will surely gasp in admiration.

    CA 2003 Section 127 here:
    www.opsi.gov.uk/ACTS/acts2003/ukpga_20030021_en_13#pt2-ch1-pb20-l1g127
and an informed history and opinion of the "offence" here:
    www.thelawyer.com/the-twitter-"bomb-hoax"-case-worse-than-we-thought?/1003651.article

Once you have read that little lot lets not hear any more about freedom of
speech in so far as it involves "communication". Be careful what you say to
    Sir Tony next time.

Well, I've got a mate in Kirkcaldy, and I've had a few decent evenings
    on the piss there.

I'm sure no-one would actually miss Raith Rovers, mind.

How many of us have made some OTT remark, venting frustrating, that could
equally be taken out of context? From the "I'd punch him in the face",
through "I'll kill the fucker", to "get them in a field and bomb the
    bastards".

As per my post in the thread you can think it, you might be able to say it
(depending on the listeners) but if you communicate it electronically and
someone complains and the CPS don't like you. Watch Out.

see where post editing gets you.

BTW, why on earth do you have a /spare/ 25MT warhead? You must have
more restraint than I thought. I, for one, would have used it by now.
    Paris, mind, not London.

those are almost the exact words that went through my mind about 10ms
    after clicking "send".

I think I was confusing myself with "The Trackers Handbook" (in which
    I'm mentioned, for some reason).

I'd just take it on as hand-luggage on the Eurostar. One stop down on
the RER, and Leave it on timer in the middle of Chatelet les Halles
station - no-one would notice; or care.

    Back home by lunchtime.
