One more reason Tomtom is F*CKED!!!

On my way back from the ride to Palo Pinto, I was zipping down the
highway heading east. Passing all the mighty DPS troopers camped out
on the side of the road popping their radar. I kept looking down
expecting to get stopped, but I figure they caught a short glipse of
this Blackbird going by and figured they couldn't touch it....so why
    bother.

Well, that morning I didn't have the Tomtom wired up with the
motorcycle. I was concerned with using it straight off the battery in
the unit, so I packed the charger in the tail section of the bike.
While I was going past a group of cars, I had to slow quickly and then
back on roll with the throttle. This must've jarred something, because
it was this moment I felt and sharp pull on the bike and heard
something kick under the bike. Suddenly the bike lunged and made a pop
sound and something struck me hard on the ankle. As quickly as it
happened, it was over and I was on the bike waiting to be stuck on the
side of the highway calling for my trusty trailer to pick me up. As I
waiting for the fateful moment of the Blackbird to quit with either a
broke chain or worse, nothing. I spent the rest of the 120 miles
wondering what went wrong with the bike. I throttled hard, no
problems. I broke hard, no problems. I weaved around, again, no
    problems. Hmm. Interesting.

After I arrived at the house, I went to the bike to clean it up and
check out what might've happened. For some reason, this still bothered
me. I'd never broke a chain, but could that have been what hit my
ankle. It hit pretty hard, and had it not been for me wearing my good
    boots, I would've likely sustained a very bad mark....or worse. I went
to check the chain and didn't see any signs of a problem. It was
plenty tight. I went to look at the tire and the components, and still
didn't find anything abnormal. I checked under the bike's motor and
around the stands, and still nothing.

I determined that I might've just hit something in the road and it
wasn't a big deal. I went to remove the tail of the bike and get the
stuff out that I'd packed for the day. When I pulled off the seat,
something just looked out of place. I unpacked everything and went to
account for each and every little thing I could remember being in
there. I got to the charger for the GPS and didn't find it. "Did I
pack it?" I asked myself. I then looked and spotted what was out of
place, the end of the charger cord strung through my tail section. As
I pulled pieces of what used to be a charger out, I could replay what
had happened. When I broke hard in the traffic, the large plug-in of
the charger slid through the bottom of the tail and fell into the rear
wheel. When it bounced, it went through my chain and got snatched off
quickly. It then would've bounced up and hit my leg and came apart.

Okay, okay, my fault I know. I left the charger loose in the tail
after working to hook up the GPS to the bike. That was my bonehead
    problem.

    Here's the problem though:
When I found what the problem was, I went in and planned on just
ordering another charger. Since the charger charged both the GPS and
the bluetooth module, it was needed that I get another quickly. I
called everywhere I could think of and no one has it. Looks like "mail
order" time. The only problem with that, it's going to cost more that
double of what it's advertised for to get it. Since no one carries a
tip the same style/size, I can't just get a universal charger.

It's one thing after another with this piece of shit!

That's okay, because I manufactured up another one yesterday evening.
I used a old cell phone charger and just spliced in the end from the
Tomtom charger. Works like a champ!

Maybe I can sell the Tomtom with the Hurricane when that guy from up
north gets his sack of cash and stops playing checkers...

Say Brian, I know very little about them TomTom thanes'-----but, 'do
    know' about
    ''motorcycle chains''.

So, therefore may I ask, even though my question is not about the
    TomTom, okay.

How often do you need to adjust the chain on such a powerful bike?

The Magna is fairly powerful, you know, and I have to adjust it pretty
often. It needs adjusting today, actually.

I rode the 600 Shadow uh' year and a half, and the 750 Shadow a year or
so, logging a fair amount of miles....and only adjusted the chains one
time. (it's the power thang right, that stretches them (?)

I try to leave about a ''1 inch'' wiggle, maybe 1 1/4.....what say you?

    over?

Every three days and/or 6000 miles....

I say, I try to leave mine with Micah...

I work on stuff all the time, and it's no fun for me to mess with a
chain on a motorcycle if I don't have to. I have WAY more fun talking
to Micah and everyone at the shop.

Brian---I do that at times, over at our Honda Store, Ed will do it for a
$5 lunch at a little Mexican place near by.. But, I've got the chain
adjustment deal down pat on the magna now., and I usually do it .
