Shamlessly nicked from another group, but I reckon some of you lot might
    be interested:

That's a seriously sexy digcam, shame they're not sold in the UK -
especially as the Jap. market price is only £205.

Yes, and I know eher from too :)

Fucking superb looking camera though. I hope it lives up to their
    reputation though.

We have a Yashicamat TLR tucked away somewhere, not used it for _years_.
I'll have to dig it out one day and take a few pics with it.

I _really_ want that Rollei, though.

I've got my dad's Primo Jr. - a 127 format knockoff of the classic
Rolleiflex, and a damned fine camera in its own right.

I'd *love* to have the little Rollei digicam, it's cool.

    How quaint.

Actually, I'm glad you started up a photography/camera thread.
I was going to post something earlier but decided it was too OT.

......Canon announce the EOS 1Ds mkII
Full-frame, 16.7Mp dSLR with a WiFi option. Only 4 fps but it's serious bit
of kit. Only 6000 of your Earth pounds.

    *WANT*

Failing that the 8.5fps 8Mp 1D mkII at a touch under £3000 would suffice.

How long before you can get one with a built-in phone, then? ;-)

If the phones in future digital cameras are anything like the cameras in
current mobile phones then the caller's voice will be unrecognisable and you
won't be able to make phone calls in anything less than direct sunlight!

I'd be perpetually irritated by the knowledge that the "focussing lens" was
    just ornamentation.

At least you've got an impressive cosh to beat off any mugger with... not
that any self respecting mugger would nick a '3' phone...

    ****.

I've been on '3' for a couple of months now, and they're fine.

Phone is a tad 'hom' but it does it's job, isn't a brick like the other
'3' phones and only costs me £12.50 / month for 500 mins of x-net
    anytime calls.

Don't think I've ever had it on '3' coverage, though, so it's using O2
    most of the time.

All relative... you are after all in the valleys, and a couple of yoghurt
pots and a piece of hairy string doesn't quite cut it there, what with all
those sheep ready to nibble through the 'line'.

Probably a damn site less in Japan, though. A friend's just bought a
£3500 lens (in the UK) for £600 direct from Japan

Amazing isn't it. And decidedly unfair.

That dSLR I mentioned seems dear at £6000 but within less than 20 portraits
sessions it'd have paid for itself.

Same with lenses - and it's probably fair to say pro lenses are better VFM
than digital bodies as lens technology has largely plateauxed compared to
the rampant development of the bodies.

Who knows when and where sensor (CCD/CMOS) technology will plateaux but it's
sure to beat film on quality at some point. It think I'm right in saying
that, with the exception of long exposures, digital is beating film in the
higher ISO 'film' speeds for low noise.

Oh, dear, they're at it again. One of these days, I'm going to end up buying
one of their flagship bodies. I'll be able to use it to photograph the
inside of the cardboard box I'll be living in.

My 300D is 12 months old today. When I bought it, it was the first DSLR
under £1000. Thanks to the introduction of the 20D, in a very short space of
time, it's going to be the first DSLR under £500.

I can imagine Nikon get well pissed off with it. The D70 really doesn't look
    very good value this week.
