one for the computer techies

  1. Daughters laptop screen goes blank then comes back on when she moves
    the lid/ screen any ideas whats wrong with it likely cost to repair

    the lid does seem to have some play in it

  2. The ribbon connector between the base and the screen panel is probably
    cracked.

    If it's a common make you may be able to get a replacement connector
    from Ebay or online spares places.

    May be an internal switch to detect when the lid closes and
    switches the screen off? Could be worth dismantling the
    case and cleaning it out with a tin of compressed air to
    remove any build-up of dust.

    If there's an external switch (like the little sticky out bit here:
    http://www.ixbt.com/portopc/g-max-n-411/buttons-big.jpg )
    then it still may be iffy - give it a press or ten and see.

  4. There will be an "umpteen" way connector from the LCD Panel connecting it to
    the Laptop's Motherboard.

    This will normally be your culprit.

    Either the connector won't be seated correctly, or the cable will be
    damaged.

    Normally pretty easy to fix if you know how to get at it.

  7. tried going down the desktop route before i bought her the laptop

    little cow wouldnt have it and as both of my girls can twist me around
    there little fingers i dont bother arguing any more

    pitty the poor bastard that marries them
