And you do it better than anybody.
Why not just admit you made a mistake? That you didn't really mean to say
    "So those thousands being killed...."?
Just say "oops, that's not quite what I meant", instead of stupidly trying
    to argue the point.

  6. Falklands?

Removal of the patrols in S. Atlantic.

    John Knott.

    Invasion 6 weeks later.

Pink Floyd releasing The Final Cut in 1983.

    The Fletcher Memorial Home.

And in a bizarre flashback, Elvis Costello singing Oliver's Army.

    Later.

PS. The baiting needs to stop. It's not big & it's not clever.

I could make a reference here to Des's utter inability to admit that
he's wrong and Chambers is correct when they state that "fora" is a
    valid plural of forums.

Apparently "language" is what Des does, that and being pig-headed and
refusing to admit when he's wrong and has painted himself into a corner.

Makes a lot of sense considering they are up for EU membership.

Now that is an interesting, if not unexpected, move.

  10. Just watch a program on Sat TV this evening with the actual combatants
saying their bit. Thought it could add to it all.
    From memory, remember from memory:

Head of UK task force Woodford(?)
1/ Anyone who thinks the Belgrano was not a serious threat and shouldn't
have been sunk has no idea of the reality of the situation.
2/ It was as well that they surrendered when they did we had only enough
fuel, arms, spares, and food to last another week. Past that point they
    would have been the victors.
3/ If one more ship had been sunk on our side we would have thought
carefully about returning to base, were it a carrier we would have done
    so.

Captain and commander of Argentinean naval forces.
1/ We were conduction the classic pincer attack against the British by
    forming around the Malvinus.
2/ My group was instructed by radio to temporally change course by
180deg. I don't know why but it would allow our other group to get
behind the carrier group before we attacked as the other group had not
    been recalled.
3/ We were all except the Belgrano armed with Exocets.

    Sub fire controller.
When we returned to base we found out that some bastard MP had leaked
the details of the our sub to the press. That has never been done
before. It even contravenes official secrets. All subs anywhere in the
world are part of a secret service. That is part of their operations.

  11. More that the EU are going to by large amounts of gas and oil off of
    them.
Russia is the second largest producer of oil after Saudi.
Sadam started the trend a couple of years ago with Arab states following
suit. After GW2 US 'diplomats' told them to get back to trading in
    dollars. They didn't like that.

I had heard that trading oil in Euros was a large contributor to the US
    taking action.
It was suggested the US economy could not stand that.

    [snip]

I have also been told that some of our Sea Wolf missile trackers were
"misbehaving", which could also have had some bearing on the situation.

I thought that was Iraq? Or was it just reserves? Or was it just in

No it cannot, which is precisely why the ayrabs are doing it I expect.

"I cannot recall a time when the gap between the demands we place on our
soldiers and the thanks we offer them once they return home has been
wider," said Sen. Tom Daschle, D-South Dakota.

"Veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom will join 250,000 veterans, who
must wait six months now just to see a VA hospital doctor," said
Daschle, who is a former Air Force intelligence officer. "This wait will
be lengthened by the closing of seven veterans' hospitals in a budget
that underfunds veterans' health care by $1.8 billion."

Saw a nice proggy on C4 tonight where Tony Robinson showed that the true
Heir to the throne of England is a Geezer called Michael Hastings who
lives in a small outback town in New South WAles called Jerilderie.
He's got several kids and grandkids. And he's a republican :)

He descends from the Plantagenet son of Richard II whereas the Hapsburg-
Golgothas currently occupying the palace are descended from a bastard
son of his queen by a french archer.

How the mighty are fallen eh?
