  1. Still unlikely to be a move towards outright surrender, which is the
    point I'm making.

    Another "what if".

  2. One Marine was badly wounded.

The Marines came under *heavy* fire. Not the Argies' fault that they
    couldn't shoot straight.

  3. What the ****** are you on?

Yes, it was. They tried to storm the Marine barracks at Stanley. There
was a helluva firefight. The Marines, according to The Falklands War,
    fired over 6000 rounds.

And the Argies opened fire at Grytviken.

Jesus, Tallbloke, remember when I was going on about the difference
between opinion and facts? Well, here you have the *facts* wrong. Again.

  4. According to the book I'm using to hit Tallbloke with, there were 23 at
Grytviken and 68 at Stanley. So I dunno where the figure 8 came from.

With Patrick McGoohan, William Hartnell, Herbert Lom and Sean Connery
they would have been unstoppable. Are there that many gravel pits in
    Stanley?

    It was.

    As was the Wisconsin.

My dad always wanted to be on a battleship, but that might have been
the result of chasing after the Graf Spee, on the Ajax.

"Good news, men. We've located an enemy vessel, and we're closing to
    engage"

    "Hooray. Which one, sir?"

    "The Graf Spee"

    "Oh. Bugger."

    Not even *remotely* close, Des.

I was always led to believe there were only 6 actually at the barracks
in Port Stanley, with a number on the Endeveaour in the area, and others
at Grytviken. After the attack on the barracks at Stanley, during which
no-one was killed but a few were hurt, the message went out that there
was far too big a force to deal with and the most prudent thing was to
lay down arms and see what happened.

We British can come up with great insults, however simply there's no
reason to waste good insults on a nation full of of stripy jumper
wearing peasants that put strings of garlic round their necks. If the
French were ever properly insulted the 100 brave ones would probably go
out and block the roads with their tractors in protest, whilst the rest
hide in their run down pig sheds smoking Gauloises and listening to
    accordion music.

Does that mean I'm a Norman rather than a Pict, Celt,
