    I freely admit my memory is a bit hazy on this, but if the above is the
    case then I'd call the hitting of the Sheffield more a legitimate act in
    a 'hot' conflict than using a sub to sink a troop carrier many miles
    from the island. Both the Brits and the Argies knew there was no chance
    of landing those troops. Having the ship near the exclusion zone
    perimeter was a stupid piece of posturing on the part of Galtieri, but
    that doesn't excuse the crassly murderous action of Maggie and her yes
    men IMO.

    ISTR the Tory Junta referred to it as 'the Falklands conflict' at the time.

    It was referred to as 'The Falklands War' nearer to re-election time...

    The Septics refer to Afghani and Iraqi insurgents as 'Belligerents' rather
    than 'Soldiers' for similar reasons. That way, they can ignore the Geneva
    convention with impugnity.

    No, I wasn't saying that.

    The ship had been sailing up and down just *outside* the 200 mile exclusion
    zone for ages. It was sailing *away from* the zone when it was torpedoed.

    It wasn't carrying any weaponry capable of firing anywhere near any
    British forces.
