  1. Of course it is: (it could also be argued that the Palace
    is a 'public place' as defined in law..)

    -------------------------------------------------
    (From Online Cambridge dictionary_

    public (PLACE) [Show phonetics]
    adjective
    describes a place where a lot of people are:

    public (GOVERNMENT) [Show phonetics]
    adjective
    provided by the government from taxes to be available to everyone:
    public funds/services/spending
    public buildings
    a public library

    public (PEOPLE) [Show phonetics]
    adjective
    relating to or involving people in general, rather than being limited
    to a particular group of people:

    the public group noun
    all ordinary people:

    public [Show phonetics]
    group noun
    1 the group of people who are involved with you or your organization,
    especially in a business relationship:

    2 in public in a place where people can see you:

    Now which of those definition does a school not fit into?
    Perchance because France doesn't believe in freedom of speech?

  2. It was his "oh so clever" troll. He deliberately said "France"
    rather than "French", knowing that some people would see them
    as synonyms in this argument, allowing him to have a controlled
    rattle throw along the lines of "you're distorting what I say,
    everyone hates me, you're the clique, you're all racists"

    Well *openly* Government Sponsored anti Jewish acts are pretty rare these
    days. Tacit approval is another thing altogether.

  5. And precisely when have I claimed that 'France burns synagogues' hmm?

    Maybe in your universe I have but in the one that most others on UKRM
    inhabit I haven't..

  6. Well - that's mighty nice of you..
    Streets can be closed too..
    I've never been arrested for anything I have said or done...

    And besides which - France has an equally bad record of suppressing
    others rights to free speech.. or even life and liberty.

    Lets start with Rainbow Warrior shall we?

    But can still be changed eh? And has many times in the past..

    Ask yourself how free the speech was under (say) the Napoleons.
    Or during the Vichy Government..

    Well, I'd suggest that you've one of the most openly racially hostile
    electorates in Europe. This is based on how successful Le Penn was in
    national elections. Sure we've a few local councillors who are fucking
    nazis but no where near the number that France have.

    I thought that too and typed something like:

    "Maybe the French were so-pro the last lot of Nazis under the Vichy
    Government that they're trying to re-create it"

    I then thought it was a bit much and deleted it.

    I'd say about half of them are pro. Then again I'd say the same about GB.

    A few years ago, I read an article that said 1 in 5 were inclined to
    either be racist and support the FN or were sympathetic to their
    cause.

    In the Guardian on the 10th Dec, it appears that 22% are still backing
    Le Pen. Whether you can say that they're racist or not, is down to
    personal interpretation. Ignorance probably counts for quite a lot;
    disenchantment with current policies of the government is another.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/farright/story/0,11981,1103512,00.html

    France does have one of the most racist electorates in Europe, but
    it's not seen in the same light as other Euro countries.

    It is a problem and most of it, unfortunately today, is directed at
    the Arab immigrants to the country. The FN is a european FN today,
    IYSWIM. In the past, SMWBO had problems when she was at school for
    being half-Spanish, FFS [1]

    The French are not renowned for being multicultural (like the UK for
    example). The problem, IMO, lies in the fact that immigrants *have* to
    be French and should lose all of their cultural identities.

    But the Le Pen issue was slightly different. People were fed up with
    the current President and government. Le Pen got through the first
    round by a protest vote.

    [1] Although this was a few years ago.

    Well one in five a few years ago, 22% now... he's increased his
    following by 10% (using uk political party approved statistics to show
    2% is 10%...)

    Where was this? If in the south it's laughable.

    It was in the South actually. Her parents moved to France to escape
    Franco and the misery he created.

    I'm shocked, genuinely. I mean, for heavens sake the whole Catalan
    region is part-French, part-Spanish with the Catalan 'nation' seemingly
    more important than the 'actual' geographic detail. Well, at least
    that's my understanding from an old business colleague in Barcelona.

    Well, from my discussions with SWMBO on this, it wasn't only her, but
    a lot of the other immigrants that came from Spain at the time. (This
    was around the early 60's)

    SWMBO was born in France, but obviously with her parents, learnt
    Spanish and started to learn French properly at school. It was
    something that really affected her life, from what we've talked about,
    so I know it wasn't a one off case.

    You know, it's when I read stuff like this that I realise how far we've
    come within Europe.

    The early 60s was not *that* long ago but it sounds like a completely
    different age.

    I think there's going to be a federal Europe within my lifetime; well
    assuming I make it to 3 score and 10. In fact I *hope* there is a
    Federal Europe- as long as the buggers leave my pension alone that is.

  18. The only non-occupied country actively to help in the Holocaust, by
    rounding up the Jews for the Nazis.

    Oh, and the Vichy French fought against the Allies in the Middle East.

    You wank, it was a war. In war you sink the enemy boats. Capiche?
    I'd have nuked the Argie invasion force before it reached the Islands.

    Hog, Dec 22, 2003
  20. I note he didn't condemn the Argie invasion and their unprovoked assault
    on the Royal Marine garrison on the islands....
