It would have been nice. I nearly went MX'ing up at Daintree on the
last day but ended up spending the day sunbathing.

It doesn't beat the USA sign "Hills hide Views".... and that was in a
    relatively flat desert

No reason not to go, there was a plod presence, but going mid week is the
    best move.

I thought I was going to get pulled over as I came around the last bend
before the "official start at 70 with a plod parked in the "turn out"[1]
as I passed the 40 sign, I was just feeling like it was my day when a
squiral wandered out in from of me, stared me right between the eyes and
dared me to try and squelch it as it stood on the apex of the bend.
Somehow I manged to dodge it and we both lived to tell the tale.

Sucking his keyboard for inspiration, Phil Launchbury typed:
Only if "huff" came from a language where the initial "h" was not pronounced
(like "hotel"), if you want BBC-newsreader-from-the-1950s standards of
    pedantry.

    So, no.

  12. He'll go in a huff. If that's not good enough, then a minute and a huff.

Well strictly speaking, the initial 'h' of 'hotel' _is_ pronounced (albeit
aspirated), and so 'an hotel' is completely fucked-up. As is 'an
historic', despite _The Guardian_ making themselves look very stupid by
using this abomination regularly as in, 'today's meeting was an historic
    event ..'.

    HTH.

    The OED says you're wrong.
Chambers Guide to Grammar and Usage says you're wrong.
The Economist says you're half right.
    http://www.economist.com/research/styleGuide/index.cfm?page=673901

The correct answer is that 'a' and 'an' are both right, depending on
how U or non-U you are.

This discussion (along with the one concerning 'alright' or 'all right')
always reminds me of the one we have in French for the word 'après-midi'
('afternoon'). Is it masculine? Is it feminine? _Le Petit Robert_ lists
it as both, whereas _La Larousse Littré_ lists it as feminine.

Anyway, the reference on which I based my previous follow-up was _The_
_Concise Oxford Guide to English Usage_ by OUP which, along with 'alright'
and other 'commonsense errors', listed 'an hotel' as incorrect for the
reason I stated. If _The OED_ lists 'an hotel' as being correct now, then
I can only surmise that the usage has 'evolved' since the time I first
    noted it.

  19. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, M J Carley
I still think that would have been fucking funny.

But then, I am (thank Ged) easily amused.

I loved the "skiiiiiiiii" noise on the cornerners... Pegs touching
