On topic.... you'll have to behave yourselves now

  1. .... as of today, any UK banned drivers will be cross-border banned in
the Republic as well, so no crossing over the border and continuing to
drive on an Irish licence, or vice versa.

I'm not certain if UK licence holders can be brought to book for driving
offences committed in the Republic or reverse. More to follow.

It's not: the RoI/UK points exchanges and matters arising are
bilateral, to stop Sammy and Ian mocking decent Catholic, Republican
    speed traps.

  4. Just got it in more detail...
There was a 1998 EU thingy for x-border penalties and bans and the UK,
NI & Ireland are the first states to actually do it, according to the
    driving minister here.
So from now, banned drivers are logged on a database in the 3
jurisdictions which will be accessible to plod in all 3 places. If
you're banned in the UK and you are using an RoI licence, your number's
    up.
They are also talking seriously (and with a tone of it will definitely
happen) about x-border penalty points too, certainly for the more
serious driving offences - dangerous, careless, drunken. A deadline of
    2013 was mentioned.
There was no mention of driving offences committed here being pursued in
the UK or vice versa, but I suppose the door might be open for it. Get
nicked for dangerous in the UK with an Irish licence and the new regs
will probably enable a UK court to enter a penalty on the database and
    conversely.
A totting-up ban will certainly carry over, which is where the majority
of bans arise, I've no doubt.

All this is based on a government IT project, involving 3 jurisdictions,
so expect an almighty ****-up in the implementation of it.
