Got a letter through today to say they're upgrading me
to 2mb for free. Which was nice.

You should hope that the accounts department have been told. Or even
better, kept in complete ignorance [1]

No chance of 2mb here due to line length but hopefully 1mb should be
possible. The terms and conditions booklet that came with the letter
is a bit of a challenge though for those of us with less than
    perfect eyesight.

You lucky bastard. You lucky, lucky bastard. I've been with them for 7
years and I only got my letter yesterday. They must think the sun
    shine out of your arse!

  12. I have - repeatedly.

I have one of their 'business-class' DSL lines - and I have never had a
problem with the line itself (apart from the BT monkey who came to
install it - I had to tell him how to do the non-NAT setup..)

The billing has been horrendous - periods where they didn't bill me at
all (despite us ringing them every week or so). Then a period where
they were threatening to send the baliffs in because I hadn't paid the
bill (I had). Then when that was all sorted (and we were paying the
backlog from when they hadn't billed me) they managed to carry on
taking the increased amount way past when they should have done and
refused to acknowledge that they had).

In short - technically very able but their admin is direfully woeful. I
have been using them since just after they started and these admin
problems started when they got taken over by Thus.

That what was the point were it all went downhill and why I left them.

  14. Hmm, how do you rate Demon? In my embryonic quest to escape the
    £28/mo clutches of 512 Kbps Wannadon't I've noticed Demon do a £26/mo
unlimited 2 Mbps "business" offer with free wireless router and static IP.
Would I *have* to subscribe to demon.local? (I kinda like my current .sig.)

I've been with them for <lost count> years from their dial-up
and moved over to Broadband at the first opportunity, and
never had a problem with either. My machines run 24/7 and
we have a static ip, even on the Home package. All demon's
packages are unlimited and unfiltered access.

With the free 2Mbps upgrade, it's not bad at 24.99 per month.

And you don't *have* to subscribe to demon.local, but you
should at least pop in and say hello, especially with your
    ..sig the way it is...

Only (as someone else said in this thread I think) their customer
service/account admin is utter utter shite.

I switched from a CC payment to a DD (their preferred method) and they
still took the full annual payment and when confronted they refused to
refund (some guff about my account not having an outstanding balance now
so they cant refund). So I contacted the CC and told them it was an
unauthorised transaction, and they are taking it up.
